Having said that, tonight's vote does not carry the force of law, so crashing out of the EU without a deal cannot be entirely ruled out.Basil wrote:I'm willing to bet that No Deal is voted down by a majority of 300+taipan wrote:The “no deal” free vote today should prove interesting

Maybe I am missing something, but WTF is the point of the vote?

Basil, is there any prospect of a second referendum being considered by the HoC this week?

Re: UK politics thread
I think it's a piece of chicanery from No 10 and they will have another go at getting May's deal through next week. As I understand the legalities, the H of C would have to vote to revoke Article 50 to definitively take No Deal off the table.taipan wrote:Basil wrote:Having said that, tonight's vote does not carry the force of law, so crashing out of the EU without a deal cannot be entirely ruled out.Basil wrote:I'm willing to bet that No Deal is voted down by a majority of 300+taipan wrote:The “no deal” free vote today should prove interesting

No. No one seems to think that there would be a majority for it at the moment. But the longer this disaster rolls on, who knows?horace wrote:Basil, is there any prospect of a second referendum being considered by the HoC this week?

Re: UK politics thread
They can vote to ask for an extension but granting it is in the gift of the EU. Personally, I don't see the point unless it's for up to 18 months to allow for a second referendum / general election / renegotiation.taipan wrote:Basil wrote:I think it's a piece of chicanery from No 10 and they will have another go at getting May's deal through next week. Re: UK politics thread
So the HoC has twice voted down the DEAL that May struck with the EU (and that they now refuse to further negotiate on) but now they've voted that a NO DEAL Brexit is not acceptable??
WTF???
Just what do these elected qunts want?? Other than chaos.

Re: UK politics thread
Meaningful Vote 3 next week. That one might be close if the Brexiters form the opinion that it's either May's deal or no Brexit. Paradoxically, those MP' s most opposed to Brexit might just be responsible for ushering it in.

Aye Skully. It is less of a shower, but more a deluge of shyte.
I see the Rees-Moggy Leavers are off to lobby the EU to refuse to grant Pomgolia a time extension to come up with a a solution.

This is what happens when Parliament tries to take over an executive function.
That said, it is entertaining as hell.

Re: UK politics thread
In a case of consummate bad timing, just one soldier has been charged with murder and attempted murder from the Bloody Sunday slaughter of unarmed protesters in Derry by the British Army. It has taken 47 years to reach this point.
At the height of the BREXIT disaster this dire result is the last thing the North and the Republic needs.
Those seeking justice for 47 years will be sorely tested. The English Government has thrown it's full support behind the former soldier who has been charged. The Tory response to the charges is an open invitation to more bitterness.
On top of the English blithe disregard for the implications of BREXIT on Nthn Ireland, the position it's government is taking on the charges seems designed to provoke trouble.
