The Mining Tax and ETS were always going to be a bridge to far for Bob.

Re: The Australian Federal Election 2010 Thread (III)
However, when asked what he would do if Mr Oakeshott and Mr Windsor backed Labor, Mr Katter indicated he could switch sides in the interests of stability.
"I would put it to you this way: I would most certainly see a moral responsibility to look at the issue of stability," he said.
"I would have no difficulty in working with the government whatsoever and also I would feel a moral responsibility to support the government that is in there to provide stability and confidence in Australia.
"If at 3pm the independents decide to go Labor then I would respect the integrity of their decision, as I would also be respecting the integrity of the people of Australia's decision."
"Every single one of us has a responsibility to deliver stable government.
"I don't think the Prime Minister of Australia should be walking around thinking someone like me is going to be stabbing her in the back and neither should Tony Abbott."

FFS - I have a bad feeling about this.
The ALP's only hope is that Windsor and Oaks told Katter they are siding with Gillard, and to do separate TV conferences
However, I have a bad feeling that all three will now side with Abbott.

if it is 75-75, do we go to another election?
or does the GG have the final say?

Maybe Katter jumped the gun because he was convinced the other two were going with Julia and started playing Machiavelli?
75/75 would probably see the GG asking Jools to form a government and then testing her support on the floor. What then is anyone's guess.

Re: The Australian Federal Election 2010 Thread (III)
If it's 75-75 Gillard remains PM for the moment.
Gillard could ask the GG for another election, which the GG would probably grant.
The other option is to recall parliament and force things to a vote in the hope that someone will buckle. Before facing a confidence vote the government has to be able to elect a speaker. She could potentially offer the job of speaker to a rogue Liberal (Brownwyn Bishop for instance) and get her confirmed 75-74.
That's all unlikely, but it is a possibility.
I expect Windsor and Oakeshott to go with Labor, but knowing the unpredictable way things have gone these past two years that's probably the ALP's death knell. Not long to go now.

Isn't there a convention that if a Speaker can't be elected they can draft 'The Father of the House' as a stop gap? Probably not a good idea as I think currently it's Ruddock, but he wouldn't be likely to vote as there would be no tie.

That's interesting. I know SFA about your line of work but there was a suggestion that the markets would welcome a minority govt as it would be unlikely to do anything radical and have to be very conservative steady as she goes for a while.

And crapping on. Broadband, the ETS and thinks the coalition needs to revisit some of those issues that saw them go through three leaders in three years.

So Abbott can't be PM at the moment. Unless there's another poll.

Oakeshott goes with the ALP.
Says it's not a mandate, nor an endoresement of anyone, any brand, or any campaign.
Reckons the first job is to have a country that as much as possible unifies behind their elected representatives. Good luck with that wish, it's not something he Australian populace has ever been very good at.
And believes that 'if you don't like the decision, you can't criticise the process they undertook'. Like that'll stop the bleating.

Actually from a vindictive point of view this is a really cool outcome. This is the equivalent of Manly undeservedly scraping through to the Grand Final and then losing in extra time by a penalty try.
