Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
in payments cricketers receive by their respective boards.
This is a ridiculous argument if ever there was one. Looks like he is offering excuses for them being implicated in this scandal by saying that Pak players are being poorly paid (as compared to rest of cricket nations). Does he even know that Pak players still earn very handsomely as compared to rest of their compatriots?
Has he ever heard of something called 'cost of living index'? Or your remuneration depends on how much your employer can pay you and not on what others in similar position are earning? Even if it does, it doesn't give you licence to sell your country.

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
Of course, I do Nasse a disservice.
Whil others are throwing stones, he is at least trying to get to the causes.
I take SG's point about ability to pay, - that's where sponsorship came in - but on the other hand, the respective links to the cost of living may not be equal. So Hussain may have the germ of a point.
Of course I agree that to short-circuit all of this, and *secretly* go on the grab, cannot be justified. At least the England players have the decency to flaunt their ferraris and what have you openly.

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
People like Naseer Hussian, M Holding, Ian Chappell, Boycott etc are HUGE fans of Pakistan cricket so i am sure they feel as bad as most other Pakistani fans.
Holding in particular was seen to be VERY VERY sad when talking about Aamer and possible ban from the game.

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
Only cause I can think of is greed. After all, there are still several other players in this Pak squad who didn't do what Butt & co did.he is at least trying to get to the causes.
Were they paid more by PCB or they don't need money?

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
Looks like PCB won't ban tainted players as yet.
Ijaz Butt, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, has insisted none of the players at the centre of spot-fixing allegations will be suspended until the police investigation comes up with some solid evidence. That throws open the possibility that they could appear in the Twenty20 internationals, which begin next week in Cardiff, despite the severe controversy hanging over them.

Asif's official agent says that first thing Yawar Saeed did after reaching Eng was ordering a chauffeur driven Mercedes for the whole day for travelling across town which costs around 1000 pounds.
Is he that rich to afford that?

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
Compared to most people in Pakistan, the cricketers are paid a shedload, but in comparison to other cricketers around the world, they're not paid much at all. Apparently their match fees are half those that English and Australian players receive.

But as I said you got to consider the cost of living index of the country they live in.
You can't expect a MNC to equally pay its executives in a country like US & Sudan, for instance.
The comparison just doesn't make sense.

Also, if pay disparity had any case, cricketers like Imran and Javed had far more compelling reasons to fix matches.
After all, Imran was (still is) like a father figure in Pak and ruled the team like an autocrat. Nobody would've doubted him ever.

Well i'd imagine the cost of living in India and Pakistan is about the same? Yet look at the difference in pay between their cricketers.

Good point. But there is a helluva difference between their economies, cricket economies to be specific.
Which is why all this brouhaha over Pak players' earnings is frankly rubbish.

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
But it doesn't hide the fact that the Pakistani players would perhaps be jealous of the money their peers earn, especially considering they were barred from playing in the IPL.
All things considered you'd have to say that along with Bangladeshi players, Pakistan's players are the least paid amongst the test nations.

Whatever they earn, they still can't ever justify that they back stabbed people's faith in them, that they sullied their nation's image.

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
I'd say that in the case of India, the central contracts are pretty irrelevant when it comes to overall earnings (mainly through endorsements). India's players should still be getting paid more considering the *sh!t* of money the BCCI rakes in. You really do wonder where most of that money goes.

As per BCCI's laws cricketers receive 26% of money board makes.India's players should still be getting paid more considering the *sh!t* of money the BCCI rakes in.

Re: Nasser Hussain asks for bit of parity
the indian cricketer's pay goes up every year as the newer endorsement deals with the board start paying out
the biggest change has been at the lower levels. a ranji cricketers pay has gone up more than 10-20 times over the last few years

Yep. Nobody would've ever imagined that our domestic cricketers would earn about 40K bucks from every domestic match they play.
