LINK
Keith Fletcher has his say - nice article, good background from 1968 onwards.
There seems to be a lot more willingness to defend Fletcher than there is to defend Illingworth ... as men. Most of the Australians who played with and against Fletcher had only good things to say about him as a bloke.

My enduring memory of Keith Fletcher is him head butting a Thomo bouncer at the SCG.
How it didn't knock him out is beyond me. He clearly has a hard Essex noggin.

(FB's) JKL's knowledge and opinion of KWRF would be worth hearing.

Re: Illingworth & Fletcher set English cricket back 10 years
Fletch was 22nd best afield in the Centenary Test - prob 23rd if you include the Aussie 12th (who would have fielded in both innings as sub for Rick McCosker).
I saw him in Oz and England and much as I despise the FTB tag I can't make it go away for this bloke. Obviously Illy found him useful as both captain and Grand Poo Bah (but it's not quite so obvious what for)

Actually Illy undermined him at every possible opportunity ...

Basically humiliated him every time he stuck his mug over the parapet in Ashes 94-95, esp on selection matters.
