Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical
Gardner had already won the title in 87 ...Doohans 5 wins are up there but we didnt rate it as high (automatically) because another Ozzie had already won one ...
...and Stoner has won one since

I see that, although I was thinking more of the "all time great achievements" by a sportsman/sheila.

......... and the helicopter and the land based transportation options.
I think I've told this story before. A female friend of mine lived down the coast in the early 80's. Next door lived a group of young blokes who were always pissing about with bikes. One of them used to give his race bike a camo paint job. he had the leathers to match. He was constantly hitting on her. She thought he was smashable but never bothered. Didn't want a bogan scalp on her belt. She can laugh about it now ...............

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical
Have met both Doohan and Gardiner. They couldn't have been more different.
Doohan - nice bloke.
Gardiner - qunt.
And Mick mentioned F1 achievements not being fitting. Brabham's effort to be the first and only (and highly likely to be that way forever) to design, build and drive a car to the F1 World Championship is pretty good stuff.

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical
HTC team are set to fold after failing to find a new sponsor, with Cavendish seemingly heading to Sky.
It's the end of the line for a team that can trace its history to Jan Ullrich's Telekom team before relocating to America. Will be hard for Cavendish to replicate that lead-out train elsewhere, Renshaw is rumoured to be joining a new Australian based team.

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical
Simon Gerrans has won the Milan San Remo, the biggest one day cycling race in Italy, 298 kilometres with two hills just towards the end. He has already won the Australian National Championships and the Tour Down Under this year.
He countered a move from an Italian climber/stage racer Vincenzo Nibali (Vuelta Espana 2010 winner) on the final hill and stayed on one of the pre race favourites Cancellara's wheel as he lifted the pace to crazy levels in the final five kilometres before outsprinting the duo to win. Cancellara finished second and Nibali third.
He's the second Australian to win the MSR, the other being Matthew Goss last year.
