as for bairstow - another young 23 year old scored 95 on debut at lords 16 years ago. he didn't do too shabbily after that
these were certainly not easy runs. he should be very proud

That guy bored cricket fans for 16 years with some very dull batting, his comments in the media were also very boring. The One wrote:as for bairstow - another young 23 year old scored 95 on debut at lords 16 years ago. he didn't do too shabbily after that

bairstow on the other hand should be a little more exciting.

Interesting test developing. Every time you think one team is getting on top, something happens.

But SAf (a at the start of the day) have the runs on the board, with Poms to bat last.
60-40. Maybe 65-35, comparing the attacks.

Didn't do your home team much good in 2010.

Yes they can. If they knock SA over cheaply they have tons of time in which to make the runs and the Lord's pitch rarely deteriorates. They have a nightwatchman in too. Maybe England is slightly ahead atm with the three top order batsmen out of the way. The thing SA is battling is that noose around their head regarding stringing a lot of good performances together. In most recent series, while they haven't lose overall, they have rarely won decisively and usually finish off with one loss in it. They've had their one really big performance, secured a draw, now they have to avoid the defeat they seem to chalk up each time.

More or less, Skulls, although PeterCS has a point. History favours the Saffies as England have never made more than 282 to win batting 4th at Lord's and in their 2 victories batting 4th against the Saffies in 1947 & 1951 only a miniscule amount was required. In the absence of KP there doesn't appear to be anyone in England's line-up capable of playing the role that Gordon Greenidge played here in 1984. Given the slow rate of progress by both sides, both batting and bowling, if it wasn't for DRS and 3rd umpires advancing the game, we'd have been looking towards a draw and we may yet to do so:
England 4th innings scores to win Lord's Tests

Must have jinxed him - the worst thing I did was make him play one of the most twattish shots I've ever seen, ever. New ball, haven't seen it at all, not at all, I think I'll go on the tonk and chase the widest of wide balls that move a little. Couldn't make it up. Totally decimated our entire innings.

Huh. Just heard that Prior's dropping of Amla was his first off of a paceman in over two years.
Re: England v South Africa, 3rd Test, Lords, 16-20 Aug, 2012
Would be surprised if we even bowl them out today. In these conditions it just takes one partnership to get established and the fielding side will just run out of energy and ideas, like we saw at the Oval. Then it will be just a case of how much of an effort they want to make to actually win the game tomorrow.

Cannot see England bowling them out cheaply enough to chase it down! Especially with the dropped catches. Anderson has just dropped a sitter of Swann.
Amal looking very good except against Finn, who was taken off after 4 overs!?
Broad bowling powderpuff 80mph stuff.
