Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Totally wrecked our chances of staying up. And competing in the T20s (WGAF). Cameron White isn't allowed back, due to Aus' underuse of him, Bird's campaign was shortened anyway, Wakely's f*cked for the season and Willey's stress fracture is 'taking longer than expected' (especially daunting as he's an early season bully) and it's looking f*cking shit, in a 'doooommmmeeeddddd' kind of way. But that's cool, we're in the First Division so people should now be talking of us like we're super-duper professional machines of mega-brilliance that can only be paralleled by other First Division teams. I can't wait.

At least it sets the bar low, it seems.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
We have something to cling onto: our top order did f*ck all last year, for the most part.
My man Rob Newton was injured for it, DJG Sales only came on late season, Peters was out for a good chunk.
So, ever-so-slightly possibly there's a chance they could all pay off and it would leave our scores 4-down in a much better shape.
If we're going on about oldies who could do a job opening, without bias, I'd moot Peters. He's been outstanding in all conditions, when he's been on the park in the last 2.5 years.
If Salesy has got himself in order he'll be a force - he loves truer pitches, where he can hit so powerfully through the line.
Rob Newton I'm most excited about - he reminds me of Sales in his prime - a tight technique mixed in with some blistering shots, pretty much 360. All three need to make a difference from last year, because Copeland, Crook and Willey made all the difference and two of them aren't going to be here.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Horold, I feel very much like Trevor Janine Mudge about Robert Irving Newton. He can bat. I'm used to batting talent at N'hants. Since I've watched them, they've had one player in particular to watch at any one time. From my perspective it has been Wayne Larkins, Allan Lamb, Rob Bailey, Andy Fordham, Mal Loye and David Sales.
Since David Sales went downhill, there hasn't been anyone who I've pinned my hopes on. But having seen a Newton innings on a reasonable amount of occasions, this bloke has pure calibre. He's a joy to watch.

re: Blurry Furriners
It msut be getting harder to recruit top international talent for the County Championship. (I doubt it's because English cricket is currently in suchsh doldrums - money speaks even on the dungheap).
At least known/established top talent.
The lure of big and bigger big bashes resounds around the world.
As far as I know, Lancs haven't secured any overseas player for this season. Prince is starting his last season of cricket. There is a Kolpak (the Jarvey chap) - not sure where Aganthangelou is now at nationality-wise. Still South African possibly, though he's as mega-multicultural as Mascarenhas was.
Or maybe Buttler is the overseas player.

Ah, but when he wrote that article he was on ecstasy and had been swigging that Delusionade all night.

Well I hope Robert Irving Newton continues to deliver the goods and has been innoculated against Trev flu

Trev doesn't touch Northants with a bargepole, which is lucky, his Spiv mates would leave him out of the rounds of Chardonnay were he to express such inclinations.
He will, however, tout a lad who last year bowled 19 overs in the shorter formats of the County game to be ripe for the England picking. Why? Because he plays for Somerset, of course!

Hayden and Hussey, yes, but you didn't know how long they were going to stick around.
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
You could perhaps stick David "Father King Christmas" Steele at the start of that list. And then Olly before him.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Stuey Meaker starts (hopefully) as he means to go on: 6 - 3 - 6 - 6
All right, Cambridge MCCU possibly aren't the strongest opposition in the world, but it's good to see him back on the park after an injury ravaged season last summer - which should've been his year to push into the Test team, but ended up on the surgeon's slab getting his knee and shoulder seen to.

He's the best 'momentum' bowler in England. If he gets one, he very often gets two or three quickly.
But injuries or no injuries, England don't rate him. And they've strength and conditioned the f*ck out of him.

I trevved him last year. Went apeshit about him one week, the next week he was injured for the rest of the season.

Can't you reverse-trev him?

I shouldn't have talked about him again - ever. I'm just hoping that Trev continues his apathy towards the man (as well as the other Northantsers), it's the best thing he's ever done.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Tom Curran perhaps an interesting player to keep an eye out for. Son of the late Kevin, a Saffie qualifying for England, all rounder, bowling style: RF.
It's a bit early for me to be killing his career with a note, so I'll just watch his development with a detached insouciance until the time is right to announce my shameless lust for him.
