Re: West Indies v Australia, 1st Test, Roseau, 3-7 June, 2015
By the way, are modern bowlers losing the ability to clean up a tail? It seems the last 2 or 3 wickets putting on 150 runs is common these days.
I reckon you could almost pick a bowler just for that skill.

That was a special hundred by Vosges given how the others went.

I did think of that this morning when I read the scores...JGK wrote:Oh - and once again someone comes within cooee of Bannerman's Aust record but doesn't get there.
I thought it was all time, not just Australia?
Great innings from all accounts, looking forward to watching the highlights.
BTW, anyone suggested Madonna as a nickname for Voges Voges Voges...

Skully, you just know Watto will get an edgy 50 between now and the end of the second test and secure his place for the first test at The Swalec

Not sure why they'd want Watson out for the Ashes, at least. IIRC, he's performed pretty well against us. Maybe I'm wrong.
Re: West Indies v Australia, 1st Test, Roseau, 3-7 June, 2015
Naaa, Voges may be nearly as old as Madonna, but he's still improving with age, which Madders quite spectacularly is NOT.

That's that then - just when it looked like the Windies were growing a collective pair, they reverted to type.

Watched the first session & it was pretty slow going. Was amazed to see we won when i logged on this morning. Huge collapse by the Windies losing 7/35
Re: West Indies v Australia, 1st Test, Roseau, 3-7 June, 2015
7/35, FMD!!!!
That's a decent win in just 3 days. Looks another good team bowling effort with Koo grabbing the figures.
Good stuff, lads.

Aye, they were leading by 9 runs when I glanced at the score in my half-asleep state this morning.

So will this put an end to the "England favourites for the Ashes" BS?

Why, because they thrashed the team that won their most recent match with England?taipan wrote:So will this put an end to the "England favourites for the Ashes" BS?

Vilks they will be 4-0 up in the Ashes and still claiming underdog status.

It's amazing that people who clearly watch a lot of cricket can get it so wrong. I suppose it might just be their own team that they are blind to, although having said that I do remember some genuinely saying that England might suddenly hit form and win the World Cup. I can only hope it was a joke.taipan wrote:vilkrang wrote:Why, because they thrashed the team that won their most recent match with England?taipan wrote:So will this put an end to the "England favourites for the Ashes" BS?

Gotta agree: weak and meek from WI... 7/35 is an absolute disgrace.
Re: West Indies v Australia, 1st Test, Roseau, 3-7 June, 2015
Obviously the bit about England doing well in the World Cup was a joke.

Right on Horrie - Voges was indeed masterful. Made batting look totally different to every other player on the park.
I liked the interview I saw with him - a really unassuming, humble team man by the looks of it. How did he ever get selected in today's modern game of prima donnas and pricks?
He kind of looks from another age - you could almost see him playing in a team from any decade from the 80s and further back. He looks out of place with the many tattoed, fashion conscious show ponies that inhabit the Aus ranks currently.
That said, I don't think the result was unconvincing. The batting was suspect for sure, but only against the leggie on a turning pitch. Remember we don't have that in our armoury (OK we have Rashid - but he'll never get selected for the Ashes). The catching was spectacular and the bowlers warmed to their task pretty nicely, Lyon apart.
Looks like a good warm-up for the Ashes to me.

Rogers and Voges stick out like a sore thumb in the current Australia line up. Maybe because they didn't make their mark on the international scene until late on?
