I may be wrong (and certainly far too lazy to look at the Glossary pages to get the proper answers) but it seems you Aussies have coined some seemingly obscure, yet admittedly very creative nicknames for your players. I can't for the life of me figure out who Cott might be.
Yet another area where we useless English are lagging behind - our nicknames are almost as predictably dull as our cricket.
Who's going to be our new English forum director of nicknames and come in and do a Strauss on us.

Some are too convoluted.. BM did a nice parody a few months back.
Cot. Sudden infant death syndrome. Siddle.

Blimey - that's obtuse.
I was reading the above article that Nath had provided the link to and then went onto read another article on there and it seems that obtuse naming stretches into official areas. There are teams in the Sheffield Shield called The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers and the Alcohol. Think Again Warriors. Wtf is that all about (apart from the obvious - i.e. sponsor cash).
Why not take it a step further and as a player find brands that equate to you and sell your naming rights to them - Ben Ginger Nuts for instance.

Some of them are unique to this board.
Offhand the only term I can recall getting universal acceptance out side of here is JAMODI.

Apologies Aussies for diverting the thread temporarily.
I am looking forward to the WI test.
Will be interesting if the pitch is a big turner and plays slow whether it will negate your advantage in the fast bowling stocks.
So, pace attack for the series is comprised of Johnson, Starc, Hazlewood and Siddle, sorry Cot. Pattinson is injured (but luckily for you guys his new coach is Saker, so he'll come back fit but bowling 80mph dobbers). Cummins injured again too? And what about Harris - injured or not risking getting him injured before the main event next month?

You're new, so you may want to know, I gave up years ago. So obscure, that it's not even worth it. Just wait until one of them does something of note - i.e. nice michelle by Krull today... Martha gets a king pair!!! ... Gwabby got 52 off 27 balls??? That sort of thing. How and why is usually immaterial, because when you find out, it makes you a little bit sad rather than eliciting a grunting chuckle

This was the brainchild of MB. Peter Siddle = Sids = Sudden Infant Death Syndrome = Cot death = Cot. QED.

The papers are saying Voges is getting a cap. At 35 he is not the oldest player to play his first test. But he is certainly up there.

Second oldest Australian batsman apparently*.
In the spirit of Lindsay's posts above - do we need to improve on "Vague" for Voges?

First being Hammy Love? (Taking Arthur Richardson to be an allrounder)

He may also have come up with 'sewer', which hasn't had as much of a run.

Hammy Love was a wicketkeeper.
I guess the answer is Ned Gregory although John Harry would also be a specialist batsman & part-time bowler by my reckoning.
