Steve Smith has a lot on his plate in this innings. He knows that if he makes a big score, it will cement his place as our #3 & we all know what that means ........
........... yes, that's right. It means that we don't require Shane Watson to bat at first drop anymore and we can finally drop him and bring in Mitchell Marsh as the batting allrounder.
As long as Watson doesn't make runs today.
Sagest sage post I've seen sagely posted in a long sagey time. Sage.

133/6??? Ouch! Bishoo is cooking it up. Actually it did seem to grip quite a bit, the last I saw. Haven't seen any wickets today, but I reckon the Strines will mainly be at fault.
Re: West Indies v Australia, 1st Test, Roseau, 3-7 June, 2015
Australia cruising, already have a first innings lead with 4 wickets still intact.

Hark what is that I hear - A siren call for Adil Rashid in the Ashes perhaps?

So Voges getting selected. Inspired selection panel call? Or bit of a fluke as there was no-one else to choose from?
Great innings by him. Proper application - almost like he understands what test cricket is about. The rest of the batsmen seemed to think they could move straight into sloggo mode. Smith must've had Clarke in his ear before play telling him to get on with it as he suddenly went loopy, having ground it out yesterday. Watson - bad shot. Always good to see him shaking his head as he trudges off though (he and Ian Bell share that trait). Haddin got a blinder of a ball. Mitch 1 basically tried to get out sweeping and eventually succeeded. Mitch 2 - loose as for your 50th ball let alone your 2nd.
Voges inked in for Ashes then?
And Basil, right on chief. Rashid and bog slow pitches are the order of the day. Let's drag them into a dogfight.

In 2014/15 Voges had one of the greatest Sheffield Shield seasons ever. 1358 runs @ 104.46.
When someone is in that kind of form, it was really a no-brainer to select him for the West Indies & Ashes tours.

Oh yeah, Voges has been knocking on the door for years, IMO. He's been consistently better performers domestically for the last 5 or so years - he's averaged 52.5 since 2009. It's not so much that, but from an more English domestic perspective, it's the scores he's made in difficult situations. He'd have been my choice quite some time ago. I expect the only reason he didn't get picked in Australia's poor period is because he had a couple of poor years at the same time.
Shame for the Windies though, here. I really thought they could pull off a blinder.

So, Windies are pretty Englandish... edgy as f*ck batting, can't bowl the tail out, can't catch for shit.

It must be the fiirst time for quite a while that Australia has had three players averaging over 50 with the bat in Test cricket ... it will be 4 when Voges is dismissed in his next innings.

Wahey!!! Unbeaten ton on debut by Vague!! Well done him. And at 8-178 we were precariously placed, but Hazy hung around to add nearly 100 with the Wozzie. Awesome!!
6 to Bishoo, ay. Nice work by him.

>>>
the home crowd was on its feet again a short time later when Bishoo ripped a textbook leg-break past Brad Haddin's bat and into his off stump to leave the tourists 6-126. It was a beautiful piece of bowling from the Guyanan and it illicited a cry of 'bowling Shane' from a local member of the press box, unknowingly on the 22nd anniversary of Warne's Ball of the Century at Old Trafford. Warne's poo remains pure white to this day.

How grouse if Twatson continues to fail (as per his last 2 years) and Vague ousts him in the Ashes?? This will save Aus supporters from the continued galling frustration of seeing Jimmeh nail the big log lbw every innings, then having to endure him dragging his fat head-shaking bottom lip off the ground.

Remarkable stat that the current Aus line-up has 3 men who've made a ton on debut.
