Stokes is still the Angrily Over-Ambitious Teeming Young Man. From whom any self-respecting door recoils.

He'll settle down, once he settles down in the team.

But the sooner he has the guidance to go with the reassurance, the better.

btw, and to repeat: I see nothing wrong with Root, despite censures he's been put through on this ear forum. Ambitious too, craving to succeed, no doubt a bit gormless (as Cock Robin Swann parodies him), and in the same way, a Derek Randall type of semi-uncoordinated-looking gaucheness when not actually facing up or running up or collecting the ball. Does he sledge? Maybe I missed it.

If he's the ill-mannered cuss a couple have said, I wish England had half a dozen more. He's champion, and a champion.

Jimmsy said that the lovely England boys invited the Aussies to have a beer with them after the first Test (a warm and fuzzy tradition they'd debuted against NZ, with warm and fuzzy results). The Aussies told them to f*ck off.

I can't imagine Jimmsy's haircut will take that lying down.

Good old sporting England. Back to the jolly good chaps we know and love. Next we'll see Steven Finn flying a Tiger Moth over Lord's. Ra-ther.

Couldn't he be found on a pedalo in the Thames? Smile

The poms eff up in amusing ways!

Our guys punch blokes, rather than breaking beds in the Caribbean, buzzing grounds on Tiger Moths or drowning in pedalos.

Australia in not being as good blokes as New Zealand shocker.

They don't know the meaning of good sportsmanship, nothing new there though. If they come back and win the series they might feel vindicated, if they don't they'll be seen as bad losers and a bunch of twats. Meanwhile, the world keeps turning.

I'm sure they will have a beer with England at the end of the series, whoever wins, as is normal.

In 2005, the teams shared a beer at the end of each test.

The Aussies are reminding me a bit of the England team in 2013-14- joyless, some internal disharmony, and slightly set in their ways.

That was the last time. Ricky thought they'd become too chummy with the Poms and that was one of the reasons they lost (couldn't have had anything to do with his captaincy), so he outlawed it.

I can imagine Alastair Cook being quite the raconteur, regaling a rapt audience with his tales from the farm and that one time he thought he lost his keys but then they were in his pocket.

Then Davey Warner recalled the time he took a swing at some dick in a bar ...

Gcspoc is still a disgrace. Look at those tv ads he did for some brand of telly. The ads almost single handedly wiped Nein's cricket ratings.

Interesting Stokes attitude was alluded to early doors in this thread. No defence of Warner was offered. Skully's cynical as long as he's making runs line was no defence. If anything Oz fans here have greater disdain for the bogan - we see more of him than other FB posters.
