Better he's exposed here in some JAMODIs rather than in the tests like Lyth was.
Who knows who should be Cook 's opening partner. There's plenty of people who have been tried and found wanting. In the last two years, Compton and Carberry have looked the best, but we know they won't be picked again.
Lees. Compton the fallback.

Devoid of all responsibility ...
Swinging like a bullocks balls ...tough first hour ahead.
You can't really blame Hales. With one review already used & still in the first over, it was an impossible task.
Nahhh. Got to blame him. Roy couldn't have known how far it was swinging... two poor decisions are two poor decisions. Could happen anytime. The previous review was immaterial.
Sage. Not content with wasting one batting spot, Hales is in such bad nick he's taken to wasting two now.

17 dots from 18 balls now from Topley. I know he isn't a batsman but it's not really helping anyone.

There's 20 overs left in the innings. The likes of Moeen should have been doing what Topley is doing, just to ensure they bat the 50 overs and scrape their way to 210.

Blocking every ball and not scoring any runs? You can't get to 210 without scoring any runs, that's not how cricket works (unless extras has a blinder).Henry wrote:vilkrang wrote:17 dots from 18 balls now from Topley. I know he isn't a batsman but it's not really helping anyone.

The established batsman should be looking to score the runs, with the new batsman playing like it's a test match. It doesn't help that England are very poor at rotating the strike.
I'd prefer Topley gets something behind it and survives than has a wild slog and the innings is over.

So how many overs do we think? I'm going to say 20, they should take their time and knock them off in 25+ but I think they will try to make a statement to finish the series and really hammer us and make the pitch look like a belter to highlight how awful we've been.

They should make Hales field at short leg and then instruct Rashid to bowl half-trackers.

Nick Knight did a piece showing how wide of the crease Alex Hales was backing up, said it's difficult to judge from that angle.

Wheels are off this England effort.
Ah well, some blessings from this series. After the last WC (!), definite and useful ODI progress in some areas. Highly inconsistent as it yet may be overall.

Crazy, really: 1-1, 1-0, 3-2, 3-2, 1-0, 3-2. I suppose you could say it's because we're exciting, alternatively you could say that we're miles from the finished article. On reflection, I'd have taken a drawn series with NZ, winning back the Ashes and winning half the games against the world cup finalists. It's a reasonable achievement, given the complete disarray we were in at the start of May. I was about to say onwards and upwards, but I fear it's onwards and downwards.
Re: JAMODI series, England v Australia, August 31 - September 13, 2015
So, what did we learn?
1) FC runs don't mean shit. Jonny Bairstow could've scored 3000 runs this season for all I care, he still hasn't improved one iota since he came up short as an international cricketer three or four years ago. Alex Hales has been in the runs this season. Big whoop. Future Test opener? Dream on, chucklenuts.
Some players just have that extra sheen of quality about them that makes them worth persisting with, regardless of the numbers. And some don't.
2) Roy is in the former category. Still the cameo king, but his cameos have improved since the NZ series.
3) Rashid is doing a serviceable job in tandem with Moeen. Let's not wheel out James Tredwell again, eh?
4) Willy's a decent all round cricketer. Competitive. Could use an extra yard of pace and England giving him a defined batting role.
5) I quite like the look of Topley. Probably not a player for the here and now, but one to keep an eye out for.
6) James Taylor, when he's not dancing around like Tinkerbell, is a busy little f*cker who at they very least seems to relish a challenge. Then again, getting his breakfast cereal out of the cupboard above the hob every morning is probably a logistical nightmare for him, so he's battle hardened.
7) Morgan's a bloody good limited overs batsman. Wears a few too many on the noggin, though. Bit worrying.
8) England are just an opener, some middle order batsmen, a keeper and two or three fast bowlers away from being a good ODI team. We're so close...

Re: JAMODI series, England v Australia, August 31 - September 13, 2015
Well that was comprehensive and rather inexplicable. Largely due to England missing straight balls on the stumps, on a rather flat wicket. Well done us.
Is this over yet?
Is this over yet?

Rather disappointing in the end. A good toss to lose by the look of it.

Yes I agree. Barstow hasn't improved at all. The only thing that's changed is that England now have less strength in batting depth, so he'll be on the fringes (or indeed in the side) for a while yet. Plus he's a lovely lad....
I think we need to look at going back to the Duncan Fletcher era and picking guys out of County cricket based on their character and how good they LOOK, rather than how many runs they score/wickets they take. If England's current selectors had been the selectors in the Duncan Fletcher era, they would never have picked Vaughan, Trescothick, Harmison, Simon Jones, or Collingwood.
Are the selectors actually going out and watching County cricket? Or are they just looking up the stats on Cricinfo and picking on that basis? Either way they're rubbish selectors.

Topley should give Nathan Bracken a call
I can see some similarities in bowling style
Shouldnt take advice on knee care though
