Golden Age of the Flaming Bails?
I don't suppose, with about a dozen regulars, this could count as the salad days/halcyon months of the Bails.
So what for you was the Golden Age? Of this full release version, or else the alpha & beta, C4 Cricket Forum.
I suppose vilks forumming in an improbable state might be a highlight. But that's just a one-off. Other such highlights are loosely collected in the FORUM GOLD thread.
Dello's contributions, Brass Monkey's, a few others. Trike, furriner, eowyn, Fromage, etc. etc. But again that is not timed.
I suppose every Advent Calendar. And then the common ability to overcome personality- and philosophical differences on occasions of illness, distress and death, whether private or public. (True, those too hardly qualify as a particular gilded space of time, being recurring occasional features.)
Well then, .... maybe the 2005 Ashes were sort of high-water mark. Or tidemark, as the case may be.
Your own memories of any Golden Age of this ol' frigate? ...

Re: Golden Age of the Flaming Bails?
If we were to go by posting numbers, Flaming Bails reached it's absolute peak in January 2008, in the midst of the extremely bitter Monkeygate Test at Sydney. Our post count that month reached a remarkable 22,000.
Either side of that peak we were regularly achieving post counts of 15,000+ per month. Today's 1,100 to 2,800 per month is a very pale imitation of those heady days.

Re: Golden Age of the Flaming Bails?
For me there have been many highlights. I actually read a lot of posts on the abc over a week or so before I ventured in. Within minutes of the first there was Skully, the indefatigable Skully, posting a typically affable welcome.
Cricketers come and go. Careers are compressed versions of life. As a kid I dreamed of
playing in the Ashes in Pomgolia (taking leave from my usual winter fun of playing for Sth Melbourne). I'd go to Shield games inc those BDay matches v the Spivs. I filled scorebooks.
Aside from rare moments of team and personal achievements, my fondest remains
listening on a crystal set to broadcasts of the Ashes in Pomgolia.
Every poster on FB, C4 or ABC has similar experiences and that provides the basis of community, even if we are all bonkers.

I miss the days on C4 when they could and did create any number of ids, and posters would go nuts guessing who was who.
I miss Laggers/ Lord Lagaan and his windups.

The main reason for the multiple ID's was the number of bannings.

Re: Golden Age of the Flaming Bails?
I started forumming on C4 in 1999.
Scary to think I am coming up to 20 years of posting about cricket.
For me nothing will surpass the Ashes of 2005. Pure quality.

Hey Furri, in a bizarre incident yesterday a poster was banned from from a SA rugby forum because it was suspected it was me.
I don't even post on the forum in question.

But, don't worry. If you ever visit Australia be sure to give Rita a call. I'm sure she will be able to accommodate you.

I'm amazed Rita doesn't get a mention in the Glossary.
Perhaps some of the following Wally quote from the RIP Woody thread can be used to provide Rita with a FB Glossary entry.
WideWally wrote:I'm stunned.
I was only thinking last night that I hadn't seen Woody on here for a while.
In the past, whenever I have checked out the active threads on forum, if I saw that Woody was the last poster on one, I would always read that one first. There would be a good chance that he had posted some hilarious comment.
I never met Woody in person but would have liked to. We shared a love of horse racing & had a running joke going between the two of us about Rita the Rooter, WideWallyWorld's most famous resident.
I also remember laughing at his story about trying to pick up a member of the Australian Women's Cricket team only to find out that she preferred the female of the species.
Condolences to his family & many friends. Especially skully. You obviously had a great friendship.
RIP Woody
