That's probably why his hair is thinning - all that running the fingers through it must take a toll...

There goes Strauss for a duck.
Don't know why he bothers driving - he can't do it to save his life.
Three day Test, anyone?

Strauss GGAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWNNNNN!!!!!! for a duck to the young upstart.
He does look a decent bowler.
Strauss trying to drive at a wide one, caught at 3rd slip.
4-2
180 AO looks a long way away

Gawd knows why they've been picking that bullshit merchant Chris Martin for all this time when they've got Southee coming through - he looks like he'll do all right.
Ha h aha h haaaaa!!! Cook bowled.
What a f*cking shambles...

Andrew Strauss you are crap. You used to be good, but now you are a bit of an embarrasment. Considering the calm and maturity you displayed at the start of your test career, your descent into the doldrums has been somehat surprising, but there you go. I hope you don't get picked for England again for quite a while, if ever again.
And now Ali Cook falls. F*ck. This is just so typical England, isn't it.

Never mind 180, I don't think we're going to reach 50 here.
I think a batting shake-up for the summer is a certainty already.

Is it bollocks. They'll just drop some bowlers.
The batting's been pathetic for ages - and not a thing has been done about it.

Englands selectors are already working out which bowler to drop...

This is where we need KP to play with purpose, rather than just scratching around for an hour or two because he doesn't trust what's to follow.

4-3, is that our worst start since the 1-4 in 1999?

Re: Southee ....
He does look a decent bowler.
A good friend of mine who was in the U-19 England ECB party in KL said just that - adding "he looks a seriously good player".
Two counties are already looking at him.
Good - coz the sooner he gets into county cricket, the sooner the CC can fark up his game!
Strauss ... what a cannute...adios.

2-4 I think it was, when Vaughan walked out for his debut innings in SA that year?JKLever wrote:4-3, is that our worst start since the 1-4 in 1999?
I can't remember anything similar since, though there must have been the odd occasion where we were two or three down for next to nothing.

It's not like he's bowling hand grenades out there though. England make everyone look better than they are

This is reminiscent of the home series with NZ in 1999, which was the Test "wooden spoon" contest at the time (even Zimbabwe were ranked above both at that point, and Bangladesh yet to play).
The Kiwis went ahead in the series, we turned it around to level, and all was seemingly well again, before England subsided in the deciding match.

.....And Nasser Hussain was booed by the Oval crowd. You can bet your life the same thing will happen here if England lose this test badly. Rightly so, too.

I thought that levelled it up and took it into the Oval decider. Could be wrong though...JKLever wrote:beamer wrote:

Edit: You're right, that was the first match of the series. Third was drawn, NZ won 2nd and 4th.

As far as I can remember- Won the first test, got beaten in the second test, were in trouble in the third test before being saved by rain, and then got beaten in the final test after being in control for a good portion of the match. Could be wrong, though......

Yeah, you're right, found it in Playfair 2000... can anyone name the four England players to make their Test debuts in that series? Not exactly a hall of fame of England greats!
