Yup, pretty much spot on. Although I'd like to fit in Kumble somewhere in the reserves. At no. 17 perhaps. Also, Boucher seems weak-ish in comparison to the others in the team.

Re: Best side for each decade.
sehwags record this decade as an opener is only behind haydens. langer had the luxury of a solid opener alongside him. i wonder when sehwag starts getting his due.
thought about gooch but his career straddled 2 decades. he didnt play after 95 and thats gotta count against him. maybe we can look at teams for each 5 yr period (imran khan suggested this as most players peak period)? didnt see much of gooch, kirsten was pretty dire though his record stacks up but for me de silva was an artist as well as being very consistent. no contest.
doremi, bouchers surely the 2nd best keeper-batsman of his generation.

3 decades. Debut in 1975 & last game in 1995
Gooch got better as he was older. 1990---> was his best period in test cricket, averaged over 52 for the last part of his career after the age of 37
Simply the greatest runscorer in the English game i've ever seen. This innings is still the best i've ever seen by an Englishman....
Ok, Goochie fawning over with...

I'd have Sangakkara personally as the reserve keeper.

Do me a favour, you rusty-tromboner. He's well down the list. Aussie one-eyedness.

Avg 39 vs Windies, 32 vs England, 36 vs India, 39 vs NZ. Well good. Should walk into a team of the decade with those returns.

Re: Best side for each decade.
PJ. Ponting only played 33 games and in that time period, there were many other worthy candidates, including Boon, Gooch, Saleem Malik, De Silva, Jimmy Adams, Ganguly, Taylor, Smith, Azhar, Inzi Andrew Jones FFS. Either you don't want your team of the decade to be the best of the decade or you've got a huge schoolgirl crush on Riggy Ponning.
Re: Best side for each decade.
Shouldn't the qualficatiob be the decade that the person made their debut. Otherwise it gets subjective as to which decade was their "best".
Fwiw my shot at the 70s
Sunny
Greenidge
Viv
G chappell
Javed
Border
Immy
Knott (not sure when he debuted. Marsh otherwise)
Marshall
Lillee
Qadir
I'd back that team over any of the others mentioned above.

Re: Best side for each decade.
I'll take a shot at the 60s and earlier (hopefully Peter and TYA will be along soon to clean up any errors I make):
1960s:
1. Bob SIMPSON
2. Bill LAWRY
3. Garry SOBERS
4. Graeme POLLOCK
5. Ken BARRINGTON
6. Rohan KANHAI
7. Trevor GODDARD
8. Denis LINDSAY (wk)
9. Richie BENAUD (c)
10. Peter POLLOCK
11. Wes HALL
Reserves: Conrad Hunte, Norm O'Neill, Colin Cowdrey, Ted Dexter, Farokh Engineer, Graeme McKenzie and Lance Gibbs
1950s:
1. Len HUTTON
2. HANIF Mohammad
3. Denis COMPTON
4. Neil HARVEY
5. Vijay HAZARE
6. Frank WORRELL (c)
7. Keith MILLER
8. Alan DAVIDSON
9. Wally GROUT (wk)
10. Fred TRUEMAN
11. Jim LAKER
Reserves: Everton Weekes, Clyde Walcott, Godfrey Evans, Neil Adcock, Subhash Gupte, and Hugh Tayfield
Which decade to place Hutton, Benords and Davo could be debated. I included Worrell because of his captaincy and leadership.
I'm sure I've forgotten some players who should be here.

No. Basically, you haven't done teams of the decade - so it's pretty irrelevant.
Re: Best side for each decade.
Just list the best players who played in that decade. Simple.

Think it was LLL's ridiculous idea about only being in one team. If you're the best in two decades, you'd be in the best of the decade both times.

I would have Peter May in the 50s team maybe for Hazare.

Pretty much
Ponting's record can be matched with most of those players in the 90s. Plus Ponting didn't average under 30 against any opposition. Quite of those players did....
de Silva is the only one I would consider having over him.

Fair enough, there's about 10 better batsmen in the decade at least, but it's all subjective I suppose. Pick the bloke who played only 33 Tests in the decade versus quite a few attacks on the wane.

Boon. Malik.
Probably Gooch, in that he possibly played the best bowlers over his half decade.
