Belated congrats to India. I watched the Indian innings (and then fell asleep in the innings break!!) and didn't think 150-odd would be enough. I spoke to an Indian colleague this morning who watched the game until 2.00 am Aus time, and he said it was a pulsating game. Not surprisingly, he was overjoyed at the outcome.
I'll have to catch the replay on Fox soon.

If they wanted to give it to a bowler, both Gul and Clark bowled better than him. And Gul anyway was highest wicket taker in the tournament. And for what on earth was Afridi named MoS?

Pakistan reacts to defeat with anger, fans burn effigy
http://in.sports.yahoo.com/070925/20/6l5su.html
Karachi, Sep 24 (PTI) Minutes after Shoaib Malik's team lost the Twenty20 World Cup final to India in Johannesburg, Pakistan's angry cricket lovers burnt effigies of Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi to vent their anger following the five-run defeat.
In yet another incident that revealed that people here can be very unforgiving when it comes to conceding defeat against India, the incident occurred at the stadium where the Asian Football Confederation tournament is being played in Lahore these days.
Here in Karachi also, mobs in some places gathered to raise slogans against the Pakistani players particularly Afridi and Younis.
"What the hell! This is the second time we lost a match to India in the World Cup. Such a big match and such careless play from senior players like Younis and Afridi. It is so disappointing to lose like this to India," Kamil Butt said as his friends engaged in animated discussion on the final in a fast food restaurant.
Given the level of interest in the final, five-star hotels, fast food chains and small restaurants had all set up television screens and arranged special Iftaar menus to attract crowds as the people also broke fast during the match itself.
"We were so happy at half time because we restricted the Indians to just 157. On such a wicket we were sure Pakistan would finally beat India in a World Cup match," complained Shakir, a student.

Congratulations to India and commiserations to Pakistan. Both the teams played extremely well in the tournament. I was really impressed by Shaib Malik's captaincy too until he gave his post match speech!
Dhoni was very impressive too, and we've found a good young batsman, Rohit Sharma. Let us hope that he blossoms in the One day format and then the longer version of the game, test cricket too.
Pathan was very impressive, though he hasn't bowled as yet with the new ball. His speed was really surprising against Australia. Yuvraj was fabulous, Gambhir was consistent, RP Singh was fantastic and even Sree was superb vs Australia.
Hope we have enough talent for the future!!

There's supposed to be a open-roof motorcade carrying the team from the airport to the Wankhede. Plans to go TO?

I know what you're saying, but you have to acknowledge the fact that English isn't his first language and when he said 'I want to thank the muslims around the world' I think he probably meant all the Pakistanis around the world. Also, it's the month of Ramadan and people were praying for Pakistan to do well, so it could possibly be a reference to that.
Anyway, I'll give him the benefit of doubt. Pakistani players shouldn't give interviews in English, they get misinterpreted far too many times.

Yuvraj is being gifted a Porsche by BCCI. How will Prior sledge Indians now?
Also, it appears that mindless BCCI officials and Maharashtra politicians are busy hogging the limelight in the function orgainsed to felicitate Twenty20 champs at Wankhede. Only Dhoni was seated in the front row alongwith BCCI officials and politicians, while rest other players were seated in the second row.

Tendulkar's Ferrari 360 Modena was purchased outside India and hence attracted import duties.
Yuvraj is being gifted a car which is being purchased inside India, so it may not attract any tax duties, though I'm not very sure about it.
Anyhow, import duty on a Porsche 911 attracts 113% import duty in India.

Besides, Yuvraj is being gifted something by someone in his personal capacity, and I think gift tax has long been abolished in India.
