Re: English County Season 2009 Thread (IV)
Notts could sign these two and get closer to recreating Surrey's achievement of a few years ago of fielding 10 England Test players and an overseas one. Still, we've already got Broad, Sidearse, Swann and the Aussie roofer among the bowlers, it's batsmen we need!

The fact that just about none of them are home grown would surely take the shine off it somewhat, though. At least most of the guys in that Surrey team had actually been with the club their whole careers.

Next year, we'll have Hales, Patel and Fletcher in the first team virtually all the time, so there are three who are 'home grown.' Some people don't count Hales but we're his first county, so f*ck 'em. With Carter and Patel the Younger also set to feature heavily, next season will be the most 'Nottinghamshire' Nottinghamshire have been in a while. Dussey will be back as overseas player for the whole of the year, the way it's going. Would be nice to get Hoggy, don't know how likely it is, whether our interest is genuine or pure rumour.

Glamorgan are 12/1 for getting Hoggy, according to Sky.
Better than I expected. Wales is probably too far from his family though. Seems unrealistic.

Re: English County Season 2009 Thread (IV)
Would be good to see a homegrown England Test player from Notts in the next few years. We've had Broad, Sidebottom, Swann and Read who all came from other counties originally, and Pattinson via Australia. Who was the last to make his Test debut having only ever played for Notts at FC level? Usman Afzaal perhaps? Not exactly a long and successful international career, and he's had a couple of other counties since then. We've had Fat Sam in the ODI side of course, and Franks as a one-cap wonder in that format.Chivalry Augustus wrote:Next year, we'll have Hales, Patel and Fletcher in the first team virtually all the time, so there are three who are 'home grown.' never thought i'd say this but please Hoggy, don't go to Surrey. Sorry Tom.
I thought Worcs were the chasers earlier in the season and now they've lost Jones...they'll be looking for a new chap.
Although if he wants div 1, then maybe Middlesex, where he can grow into a Super Gus type (even more than already). Or Essex, like Dazzler before him.
Yorkshire are Carnegie qunts. Think that has been evident for a while. Think will now become 'Durham Jill' in protest and support of my genuine home county.

We put in a 28 day notice of approach to Yorkshire earlier in the season to talk to Hoggy, but it went no further than that mainly because of how much money he wanted. And, according to Mark Newton, we are not going to rekindle our interest.

Ok, Bas, fair enough. Maybe he'll have to go for lesser club, bigger money.
Yeah JKL, I live in a mindset where M'sex are always in div 1. It just seems 'right'. Still, they might have the money, but I can't see him moving to London. Maybe...Lancs?

Oi ... us Muddlers have got our own home grown talent coming through the ranks ... Hoggy, much as he may be admired and liked, is overpriced ... and Gussie continues to believe "in the future" ...
Yeah, you tell 'em Gus!

if he is that over-priced, then maybe this will be it.
I couldn't see M'sex going for it. No need with the young bowlers they have.

It's the class that continually shines through that convinces you thus, Jill ... something the Chavs are forever seeking to emulate but fail at miserably ... needing, as they did, a contrived finish to pip the worthier Northants to the promotion spot!
We'll be passing Essex heading down as we climb up around this time next year!

Aye, sadly true ... to a certain extent.

Errr, when was your last bit o' sliverware won Leve's ?
Crap as this sounds, at least the Muddlers took a T20 tin cup LAST SEASON.
Still waiting in Great Dunmow for the great revival ....?
See you on the way down next season mate!
