Terry Jones- Burn the Quran day

Surprised there is no thread on this...

This Pastor(who happens to be from Florida out of all places) wants to burn the Quran tomorrow(sept 11)

And the American government can do nothing. America was founded on secular principles (not that you would think this given the massive Christian government emphasis that there seems to be).

The man should be free to do whatever he wants however ill judged his actions. He is wrong in his views though; he paints every Muslim as a terrorist. However I am not particularly pleased about many Muslim countries saying that this will badly damage relations with America. It's one man in a free country who has nothing to do with the government.

Funny how he isn't being tolerant of other religions as (some parts of the very contradictory) Bible says.

What happens if people get offended by this? Their life is not suddenly not worth living, their children don't die, they don't get ill. In fact nothing will happen except whatever they decide to mentally put themselves through.

In any case, if what Muslims believe is true, will he not pay for doing this in the afterlife? So why persecute him now?

The motives are interesting. There is a move to fit out a building near Sept 11 Ground Zero as an Islamic Mosque. The crazy Florida Pastor thinks Islam is the Devil and wants nothing of it (basically claiming having Muslim place of worship at NY Ground Zero is like a flying an American flag at Ground Zero in Hiroshima), so is threatening to burn copies of the Quran in protest.

At the 11th hour a local Muslim leader did a deal with Tery Jones (the Pastor) that the Mosque would be moved, but did so without speaking to the Imam behind the Mosque. Jones says OK, but then the Imam says "WTF, I never spoke to Jones", so it could all be back on.

Those crazy Yanks!!

Racisim in North Florida has been on the rise for a while now, a few months ago there was a bomb blast outside one of the mosques.

Look at the brightside like The Beatles. Burning the quran would mean they'd have to buy it first.

They can download it free off the net . . .

And burn it on to a DVD. No one would be blowing themselves up for that.

Indeed, I've read about this case (at least superficially). Mainly because Rage Against The Machine were edited out of an American TV show (David Letterman, Jay Leno or whatever) for hanging the flag upside down.

Nationalism is *sh!t* anyway, I would have no problem burning the Union Flag.
