Bathurst 1000 2010
Qualifying just finished. Jason Bright took top spot by 6 1000ths of a second from Lowndes, who was just in front of Whincup.
Heading up to the mountain tomoz with my little brother and his 2 sons to watch practice, a bunch of races and the Top Ten shootout. We are gonna be up there by 7.30 am and not out of there until after 5.00 pm. Might be a tad knackered by the time we get home.

Suzuka is on as well. Unforch it clashes with the end of Bathurst.
Outstanding weekend of motor sport (and yes, horse racing too).

Re: Bathurst 1000 2010
The whole Ford v Holden thing makes me laugh these days. A few years back, it made sense, but these days, well, take a squiz at this article from the SMH last week...
But Bathurst is hella grouse. Worked for a company that sponsored a privateer in about 1997, and jagged not just pit passes but got to spend the race in the garage. Fan-freaking-tastic, and the noise at the start from just inches away in pit lane...? Awesome!
And shortly, AVESCO is going to introduce a 'single chassis' for the cars, which means a Holden, a Ford, and possibly Toyota/BMW/Audi entries will be different body panels on the same frrame, which won't be that of a road car.a modern V8 Supercar bears little resemblance to the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon you find in your showroom. From the outside, it may look like a Commodore with a big body kit but it's so different, I feel like I'm learning to drive all over again.
Fewer than 10 parts are shared between a Commodore road car and Bright's race car, and they're bits like the badge, door handles and rear-view mirrors.

Blame the govt and their legislation that networks can only have 1 HD channel

The networks don't have to make that single HD channel "repeats only" though.

Qunts.
Nine turned its HD channel into GEM, a channel for girly-types, loaded with rom-coms and other chick-flicks, but will still show rugby league and cricket on it in HD.
Seven created MATE in HD for blokes, but the Bathurst 1000 will only screens on 7SD.
We need a stronger sobriquet than 'Qunts'.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2010
Well, it was magic live. Very long day. Left Sydney at 4.45 am and arrived in Bathurst for a Maccas breaky at 7.10 am.
Excellent day of entertainment with Ute races, Classic car races, GT3 races, the Fujitsu series races, Supercar practice, these crazy drifters/dougnutters in utes, bike tricks and Krusty Demon style leaps, and then the Top Ten Shoot-out. Awesome day.
Walked many kms to cover as much of the viewing positions as possible. Top of the mountain was just remarkable. The cars roaring over the top and down through the Dipper, Esses and Elbow was scary sh!t. Crowds were massive and the car noise was just phenomenal.
Got home at 9.00 pm completely r00ted. Top day!! Just settling now in for a grouse armchair day of the Great Race.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2010
Very ordinary coverage of that, and indeed much of the race thus far by Seven. Several major overtaking moves at the pointy end missed, and regarding the stack Nath mentioned, the commentators were far too wrapped up in their own waffle to look for the cause for several minutes. We'd picked it at my place as it happened, but how the 'experts' missed it is beyond me.Nath wrote:great stack on lap 1

Re: Bathurst 1000 2010
15 laps to go - the first 6 cars are separated by 10 seconds.
All we need know is a flash thunderstorm to make it REALLY interesting but at this stage the 2 legends (Lowndes and Skaife) are looking the goods.

Well done Lowndes and Skaife. Lowndes ended up doing almost 100 of the 161 laps.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2010
Not enough rain or incidents, but Coulthard stack was pretty grouse. Agree with Zog on the coverage and the missing of Coulthard's lose as it happened. My brother and I iimmediately called "someone just lost it" as Coulthard slide over the curb cam going sideways, followed by the obligatory "whoaaaaaaaa!!" as the Director finally woke up and showed us the long shot of the car rolling over and over.
Congrats to Lowndes and Skaife.

I turn it on each year hoping to see that they have allowed Corollas and Geminis back in only to turn it straight back off.
It went down hill as soon as they stopped calling it the Hardie-Ferodo 500
