Bathurst 1000 2014
Fabian Coulthard breaks the lap record to top qualifying for the Shootout. Lowndes snuck into 10th but was elevated to 9th after Tander withdrew (had qualified 9th) after co-driver Luff plowed into Lowndes at Turn 2 and flipped the HRT car during this morning's Practice 6. This allowed James Courtney to get a Top 10 Shootout spot. Whincup hit the wall at Turn 3 and didn't make the top 10.
Top 10:
1. Coulthard
2. Van Gisbergen
3. Wood (who??!!)
4. Winterbottom
5. McLaughlin
6. Bright
7. Perkins Jr
8. Moffat
9. Lowndes (but is racing to repair his car after the Luff shunt)
10. Courtney
Frosty was fastest in Practice 6 this morning, but quite a bit slower than Coulthard's remarkable 2:05:61 (a full 1.2 secs quicker than Murph's 2003 Lap of the Gods)!!!

Re: Bathurst 1000 2014
Will be saddling up to start another cricket season tomorrow while the great race is on, and it's an away game, so I will miss most of it.

I reckon it's the last one, my left knee has been aching solidly for two years now, and the Brufen takes a real beating.

The Giz gets pole, with Frosty on the front row with him. Lowndes jumped from 9th to 6th.

Still, you'd probably get a gig for Tassie at the moment.

My most anticipated moment in the year's sport is always the first ball of the Gabba Test, but the start of the Great Race is not far behind.

Unbelievable!! We've got a half time break to patch a defective turn 2 surface. FFS.

Indeed, Nath. Very piss poor. Still, the Araldite seems to be holding, but they are dropping like flies now. Yet another safety car after a big lose on Conrod.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2014
Cracking finish.
The winner started last on the grid. The guy who lead after 161 laps ended up 5th as he ran out of fuel. And the guy who was on pole and lead for scores of laps stalled the car in the pits with 10 laps to go.
Go Ford!

Re: Bathurst 1000 2014
Worked out well for me. We took the kids to Dubbo zoo on the weekend, stopped off at Bathurst today for lunch, heard that the race was likely to go past 6 so hurried home to see the end.
Only 1 speeding fine too.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2014
Fantastic race!! Only Bathurst could provide such drama. Congrats to young Chaz Mostert. Whincup must be wishing he just held back a smidge in those last 4 laps. He may have snuck home.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2014
Happy for Paul Morris too after having had a Bathurst win taken off him all those years ago.
Whincup seemed pretty unapologetic today - said if he had conserved fuel he would have been second so decided to go for the win and put on a show. As it was, with a couple of hundred more mls he would have still come third.
