Bathurst 1000
Not sure if there are any motorsport fans here but Bathurst is on this weekend.
For those who don't know, the race is a 1000km race on the Mt Panorama race track in Bathurst in central NSW. It is an absolutely cracking race track which goes up and down the mountain. As it is a public road, I have driven around the track a few times. I am here to tell you it is frightening going around some parts at 60kmh, let alone the 200kmh+ that these guys do.

Re: Bathurst 1000
It used to be ritual viewing in my parents' household, when I was growing up. I haven't watched it much in recent years ... I certainly couldn't put in a full day. The first few laps are often fairly hair-raising.

Bring it on. Excellent top 10 shoot out this arvo. Hot lap by Skaifey but bettered by Winterbottom. Amazing to think that Murph was a full second quicker in his remarkable shoot out lap in 2003.

I wouldn't be too upset if we get another flying kangaroo tomorrow.

I'd love to see it, but without Satellite TV I'm unlikely to...

Re: Bathurst 1000
The race was excellent. Well down on so called 'spectacular' crashes, and lots of good hard driving, with clever overtaking moves aplenty.
And then, about a dozen laps from the end, rain, bringing a whole new dimension to it.
And seriously funny - to one who's never been taken in by the Holden vs Ford BS - the looks on the Holden fans' faces when Ford went 1-2-3.

Magnificent race. That last 12 laps was truly spine tingling.

BTW - the F1 title will come down to the last race of the season with 3 drivers a chance after Lewis Hamilton DNFed today.

Re: Bathurst 1000
Cool, given the way Hamilton has started sooking recently, it would be karmic if he missed the title by a point.

Re: Bathurst 1000
An unusually boring 1000 km classic for the first 5 hours or so but damn, was that last hour great. Well done to Lowndes on retaining his Bathurst crown.

I can't believe there were any Holden fans left at the end such is the hatred and rivalry.Zat wrote:And seriously funny - to one who's never been taken in by the Holden vs Ford BS - the looks on the Holden fans' faces when Ford went 1-2-3.

Not a fan. What's the 12th Man quote? Something like "these cars just keep going round and round, it's so f***ing boring"?

Re: Bathurst 1000
Other than the cricket season (espesh the start and when series are coming to a head), this is my favorite time of the year.
2 footy GFs as well as the mighty Bathurst 1000.
Will be in Port Mac for the week covering the NRL GF (Sun 2 Oct) and Bathurst (Sun 9 Oct).
Will be having a few sherbets with the little bro and enjoying both events immensely.

No, they've wound it back to an 11.15 start, Nath.
Unbelievable, given it used to start at 9.00 am or even earlier back in the 70s, when I really got into it.

I guess the cars are faster now than the Fred Flintstone-mobiles in your day...

Re: Bathurst 1000
Torrential rain washed out the Top Ten Shootout this arvo.
1st time it's ever been cancelled.
So Cam Waters keeps his place on poll for the Big One tomoz.
