Bathurst 1000 2012
Only 3 weeks away.
Lowndes and Luff have warmed up by just winning the Sandown 500. Whincup's co-driver, Paul Dumbrell, did a fabulous job to get into the lead from 19th at the start, after his boss farked up in yesterday's qualifying sprint race (which was awesome - very smash-up derby racing). Whincup held the lead until a dozen laps from the end, when he made another mistake to let Lowndes through.
Hopefully it's on omen for the Great Race.

Merc V8 Supercars
"MERCEDES-Benz will enter the homegrown heartland of V8 Supercar racing next year to challenge Ford and Holden.
The luxury carmaker joins Nissan as a newcomer for a new era in local touring car racing, thanks to fresh regulations that open the way for additional manufacturers and lower-cost cars."
-----------------------------------------------
Won't be at Bathurst this year, but 3 Mercs will line up with the Holden's Fords and Nissans next year.

Grouse news. I do love the sound of a Merc AMG V8. Hopefully the new regs won't emasculate it.

Traded up from the Liberty Spec B?
And from the sounds of things, the 4 makes will be identical except for the badge and paint jobs.

Had to trade up to a CX 9 when BabyKv3 arrived. Not many cars can take 3 baby seats.
My sister's boyfriend now own's the Spec B. Still looking as grouse as ever it is too.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2012
Nice truck, the CX9.
Aye, the Spec B I had from late 2006 to early 2008 was the grousest car I have ever driven. Very enjoyable way to make the 140 Km round trip to the Mountains each day, espesh going via the windy back way through Windsor. The qunts now charge us 100% for the vehicles as part of the work contract, so I'm now tootling around in a gutless (but cheap) 2.0L Lancer.

Bells Line of Road? That's a great road (although scary in the wet).
Bad news re the Lancer. You could probably pick up a Spec B from that time for less money by the way.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2012
Nah, Galston Gorge and Cattai Ridge Rd. Awesome fun kicking the 3.0L in the guts and the all-wheel drive sticking to the road like it was on rails. Only ever saw one cop in 18 months of blatting along that route. On the way home, he fell in behind me at Windsor and I had to sit on the speed limit all the way home. He was determined to get me. Hellish trip but I didn't give him just cause.
We only get two choices - lease a new one, or catch the bus. When the lease runs out on the current vehicle, I'll be taking the cash and catching the bus (well, prolly driving the Chief's Getz. )

HRT's sexy beast for 2013. In your face, Mercedes.
God, I'd kill for 10 solo laps around Mt Panorama in one of these.

Well, I have driven one before, and they are very easy to control. I wouldn't see myself doing a Murph Lap of the Gods but it'd be massively grouse fun. I'd probably be flat out breaking 4 minutes - there's no way I could see myself sliding sideways through McPhillamy or hitting 300 ks down Conrod.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2012
My boss is a pretty serious amateur racer. He did a race a couple of years ago during Bathurst weekend. Unforch his car carked it after 3 of I think 10 laps of the race. But he said he was absolutely terrified the entire time - esp at the top of the track - and he is genuinely one of the most fearless people I know when it comes to personal safety.

Re: Bathurst 1000 2012
Yeah, agree 100%. Live at the track it is absolutely mind-blowing watching the V8s blat over the top. The noise they make is unbelievable - popping and crackling between throaty roars. You'd love to have a go though, wouldn't you??

I don't like Murph (he's an arrogant dickhead Snoozie) but I let out a "Holy Shit!!!" as he crossed the line that day.

Lowndes' Co-driver, Warren Luff, is the fastest in practice so far today.
