As I've been proclaiming for some time, AFL is dominating the news, the doomsayers are bemoaning the state of one day cricket - the whole thing is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Cricket is strong enough to survive, primarily because there is little else over the Summer to fill the TV sporting void.
That said changes will be made, and regretably that is the demise of the one day game, and the rise in the bastardisation of the game that is JAMITTs

The fact that Nine can't even show live the launch of the international cricket season tonight tends to reinforce the point here.

Re: Cricket thumped for six
I can't speak for what happened in Melbourne, but the game was shown live by Nein into NSW. It was a 5.35pm start in Perth, and certainly seemed to start on the TV here at 8.35pm. The Melbourne TV guide also seems to suggest it was going to go live into Melbourne... Any Victorian FBers who are still connected to reality and not living in their own little universe, able to confirm?Red wrote:The fact that Nine can't even show live the launch of the international cricket season tonight tends to reinforce the point here.

What will Red have to talk about when the first test starts in front of a packed Gabba?

There's currently a talkback topic re. the falling apparent popularity of cricket.
Many callers said that there is a lack of characters in Australian cricket atm.
Most said they didn't even know last night's match was on.

Just want The Ashes to start. Don't care about these rubbish 20/20 and JAMODI series.

There have been complaints that ODIs and the like are boring and irrelevant for over 10 years now.

I do love the number of people saying that OD cricket is bornig these days. Exactly how much longer will it take for the realisation to dawn on them that t20 cricket is worse?

But it is all about the sizzle, not the sausage.

I am with Red on this one. Cricket as we knew and grew up with is on the wane.
