Re: World Cup Warm up games.
Luke Wright's selection for England seems as bizarre as Mike Hussey's exclusion from the Aus squad. During the Circular Saw Cup game today at the WACA he was walking freely.Henry wrote:Luke Wright- 0 with the bat, and now 0/11 off 1 over. And all against the might of Canada. What a star.....

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
Canucks need 90 off 22 with 4 wickets in hand but Cheema going strong on 93*.

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
I love how Strauss can't even bring himself to go for the kill in a warm-up match with Canada.
28/5 - let's bring the part-timers on, rest the main bowlers for the death overs: this baby's going down to the wire!
1 over for 10 runs from James Tredwell. Some might wonder why he's even there. I suspect his captain is one of them...

To be fair, this England attack looks hella sh*t. Broad, Shahzad, then Wright, Yardy, Tredwell, and Collingwood. Yuck.

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
I think with all the T20 winning and the test side doing well a few months ago I was actually lulled into having some sort of optimism for this world cup.
Right back to the usual "No farking hope" now.

Well, at least the England side and the Australian side have sumpent in common. We should both make the QFs and may very well bow at at that point - unless we meet each other, of course.

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
I forgot we were even playing!
Oh look, wanqers pissing about with the bat again. I guess they will now dump the Prior experiment at the top of the order then.
Yardy at 7 never has & never will work, get Bopara in there in Morgans absence.
Great to see Broady back, but almost inevitable that the non-wicket taking triumvarate of gash would be mince...

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
I've found the whole match quite abominable. We're a flailing bunch of wastrel-like discarded muppets. A higgledy-piggledy, amalgamation shitheap of underachieving Big-Time Charlies.
I predict we'll lose in the final by 20 or so runs.

Don't worry we've got plenty of time before the WC begins..... oh.

Mind you, considering Broad & Shazzer only have 20 overs, how exactly do you attack with Look Right, James Tredwell FFS, and Michael 'on the oche' Yardy?
Vilks, yeah I was quite optimistic we'd put up a decent show following the T20 and some decent performances the last 18 months but it just looks as messy a preparation as ever. Guess it goes to show how each of the 3 formats are different from each other - even T20/ 50ovs.

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
I didn't watch the match but if Strauss actually brought part timers on when Canada (FFS) were 28/5 then he should be sacked immediately as captain, he's utterly clueless in ODIs.

Strauss? sh!t captain on-field, full-stop. Nothing about him whatsoever. He's like Graeme Smith, sans-steroids. Oh, and the pathetic manner.

I don't think I'm about to reach for the cyanide pills on the basis of this match - and this criticism of Strauss is way over the top.
This is a warm-up match - right? So, it makes sense to make sure that all the likely bowlers get to turn their arm over.
What would we have learned if we had kept the frontliners on and we had bowled Canada out for 80?

But what have we learned that we didn't already know Bas?
Wright FFS Yardy FFS & Tredwell FFFFFFFS are complete & utter wank in 50 over cricket.
The panning of Strauss is because he's done the same in the Aus series - had the top order shot out for bugger all then had 'em smearing 9rpo from the sh!t fillers bowlers ........

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
Indeed, it's not like he just did this as a one off, it happens every time we seem to be on the verge of bowling a team out.
Perhaps Strauss was concerned about our reputation for good sportsmanship after the Prior incident and thinks giving teams a chance is the way to go.

They were 28/5 after 7 overs. Broad and Shahzad could've bowled through and the game would've been over inside of 18.

Defeats the purpose of a warm up match though.
Then again, playing Canada defeats the purpose of a warm up match. It appears England used up all their good ideas in preparing for the Ashes.

I would've thought the purpose was to win.
It's not like any of these players are coming into the World Cup on the back off two months on the beach. They're cricket-ready. Whatever that means. Probably nothing - just a term I've made up.

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
I would have thought that getting the side used to Indian conditions was more important than winning a practice game. Granted no good would have come up out of a loss to Canada but only bowling 18 overs would not have been much benefit either.
and it's not like playing 7 games against Australia provided England with much practice of how to play spin.

Re: World Cup Warm up games.
Getting Wright, Tredwell and Yardy used to Indian conditions is a waste of time and energy. They should've been back in the dressing room after 18 overs, learning how to correctly mix the drinks.
