Swanny drops the World Cup first ball of the match!
Not really. Well, he might have dropped the 'any slim chance England had of winning this match' cup.
And then Sewhag chips one JUST over cover. You can tell after three balls this isn't going to be England's day....

So that's three half chances in the first five balls of the match.

Aye, Nath, it's all looking very omnibus for the Poms. SRT looks like he has set himself for a big ton and GG ain't too shabby either. Target will be 330+.

Well, the Anderson cycle does still exist. I thought it had been curtailed for good. Perhaps his unexpected peak will be followed by unprecedented dross? He's like climate change ... La Lina and El Nino.

Jimmy needs sending home, who cares if we only have 14 players left in the squad - the best we can hope for is scraping 4th place and getting hammered by Australia in the quarter finals. Let him have a break and hopefully come back refreshed for the Test summer.

Aye, he is distinctly ordinary in this format - should have dropped him and kept Bopara in this game.

Oh well bowled Shazhad - no long leg, so good plan to bowl a leg stump half volley!!

India commit the cardinal sin of one-day cricket, failing to bat out their 50 overs...

I said to my Dad when India elected to bat that records would be broken.
Highest score by India against England at world cups.
Highest score by SRT against England at World cups (not sure if it's his overall best but could be).
Jimmy Anderson becomes the most expensive bowler in world cup history.
Have I missed any?

Re: World Cup 2011
Not quite the most expensive of all World Cup bowling figures, but the most expensive for England - NZ's Martin Snedden still holds the overall record of 102 runs conceded but that was from 12 overs. The record from a maximum of 10 overs is 97 from SL's Ashantha de Mel in 1987, at the hands of Viv Richards and Desmond Haynes.

Re: World Cup 2011
Pleased for Jimmy - it's about time he started getting his name in lights.
What a load of dross. I just don't know what England's plan is, other than a grim devotion to all-out defence at all times. Everyone seemed quite happy for Yardy to offer nothing but a steady stream of overs of seven and eight singles. That's proactive.
I mean, we all knew they'd stink out the joint at this WC, but even so, for a side who have supposedly played some "good one-day cricket in the last 18 months" to appear so deficient across the board is a bit of a downer.
Hey ho.

You might be able to add India's largest WC win and England's worst WC loss in due course, or am I being unduly pessimistic?

We're the opposite of the England rugby team - always reach our lowest point of the four-year cycle at the World Cup.

Re: World Cup 2011
The first 5 overs made it look England had worked out their plans to a T. Anderson and Shahzad looked unplayable. sachin was not getting his rythmn after tackling the first Anderson delivery he faced with assured confidence and Sehwag's fast run rate looked very accidental surviving 4 snicks that were all chances though tough ones. I saw uptil 10 overs.
Went for a wedding after that and on return the question that hit me as I see the game now is WTF happened?. I had a feeling I saw Sachin looking determined and a had a feeling he would do well today but the first 5 overs and England's brilliant fielding barring Shahzad's slip made me think it would go more tough. At which point did they lose the tight grip they had? Damn the wedding. I had to take my Mum there and missed out on a masterpiece it seems.

England looking to beat the odds and play out of their reputation here to pull off what seems impossible. Can they emulate their opponents the way India played in the famous Natwest trophy final.
