Re: WI v Pak Test series in Caribbean, May 2011
lanka has said they wouldn't be going to pakistan, especially since things just seem to be getting worse. it will be in uae or lanka. most probably uae
hope they get better pitches than the saffie series. could be a run-fest for the likes of samaraweera and misbah

Misbah is scoring runs all over the world these days, i think he will be the test player of the year this time around.

doubt it. he has to go past the likes of tendulkar, laxman, kallis, cook, trott, swann, anderson, khan. and i dont think pakistan has any tests remaining after this one till the end of the qualifying period (31st july)
india and england have 4-5 more tests each. i am guessing the test player of the year will be from one of those teams

All those players have some catching up to do, currently Misbah is # 1.

All over
1-1 is NOT a satisfactory result for Pakistan but hardly a disaster considering the big win in this test.

Considering the Aamer Asif (butt) disaster, overall results since the ban have NOT been bad at all.

Congrats to Pak, a bit more resolute nowadays although Daren Bravo's drop in the first innings of utmost importance. He won them the game.
Re: WI v Pak Test series in Caribbean, May 2011
Fielding is a big problem for both teams
Salman failed, there was no reason to drop Adnan Akmal.

well done pak. took something to come back from a painful loss in the 1st test
a 3rd one could have been really interesting. have to say pakistan would be the more disappointed team at the end of the series

Oh well...
Kallis is the cricketer of the year for me, just for his performance in the 3rd test.

Re: WI v Pak Test series in Caribbean, May 2011
Thoughts:
– We still have a long way to go before being a truly competitive Test side, but we are getting there slowly. The batting needs a lot of work but I would like to see them perform on seam friendly tracks rather than the spin bowling paradises we have seen in this series.
– Why on earth do we keep preparing spin friendly wickets for sides packed with spinners when we only have one and a fair few decent pace bowlers?
– Pakistan are the better of the two sides and they should be quite annoyed that they didn't win the series when the matches were played on two pitches ideally suited to their bowling attack. Clearly their batting still needs a lot of work as well.
– Why is Ajmal allowed to bowl whilst people like Shillingford are banned? His conventional offie is very close to the legal limits whilst his doosra is just plain embarressing. Even the usually diplomatic tv commentators felt the need to highlight it.

This guy is playing for Worcestershire in the second half of the season. I can see it now - he gets 10 for Jack Shoite in his first game for us, then there will be mutterings about his action, then he will be called.
I happen to think that he pings his Doosra.

Congrats to the Paksters. Disappointingly soft performance by the Windies.

That's been the sum total of Windies cricket for the last ten years though. But there are signs of recovery - Bishoo, Bravo Junior - who clearly values his wicket more dearly than his elder brother. But you have to wonder about the leadership and the coaching.

looking at the odi records as well it seems trott would be in the lead for cricketer of the year
test player of the year and odi player of the year has more contenders

Aye, it will be whoever fares well in the rest of the period - Trott's early runs in the period were tough against the quality Pak attack with the ball decking around all over the place. Expect that can only help his cause but Sachin's weight of runs has him ahead.
Re: WI v Pak Test series in Caribbean, May 2011
Trott's basically made a sh*tload of runs against every team he's played against in both the test and ODI formats. He can't do much more, really. Kallis didn't have a great World Cup.

Test average - 60, ODI average 55.
Pretty legendary stats so far in his career.

Re: WI v Pak Test series in Caribbean, May 2011
If he has another good Summer this year, i'd even entertain the idea that he is a great English batsman. Not a Hobbs or Hutton type great, but a Barrington type great.
