It's official then:

It will inevitably be a disappointment, but I would love it if he scored even one screamer. Probably my favourite player of the last decade, seems like one of the few incredibly talented footballers who isn't a complete c*ck off the field.

Well yes, he is 34.
I imagine his pace will have completely gone, but if he still has his touch and technique I'd imagine he is still capable. A lot of his best goals were when Arsenal hoofed it up the pitch ending up with Henry controlling it immaculately with his first touch and scoring with his second.
In fact although his pace was a massive weapon I would say that less than half of his best goals were down to his pace.

In fact, if the following video is anything to go by then it's less than a third. I think I counted 7 goals out of this collection of 25 that he couldn't score without the pace he had and I think I was being generous on a couple too:vilkrang wrote:

It's not often that you can claim any type of victory from losing 3-2 at home to your rivals, but I'd be more worried as a United supporter than a City supporter right now. When the situation was reversed (i.e. down to 10 men at home) City won 6-1, whereas United were close to being embarassed today.

It will be interesting to see which English side limps its way to some silverware this season.

If I was someone who pointed out the gayness in your posts I would point out that writing about imagining Merlin splooging is definitely gay ...

Amazing! One of those rare occasions in sport when the script is written, read, and carried out to perfection. It was a classic Henry goal as well- Excellent first touch to control the ball, then slotting it into the corner of the goal. It's like it's 2006!

Everyone who talked to him after the match commented that he seemed to be completely overcome with emotion, and I think you could see what it meant to him after both his celebration and interview.
Really amazing moment, even he doesn't score again he's already left a pretty special memory. Must have been brilliant to be at the match, seeing a living legend (there's a farking statue of him outside the ground!) come back to score the winning goal, that type of thing doesn't happen very often.
I said earlier in the thread that if he still has his good first touch (which he obviously does) then he will still be capable. I don't expect him to go on an RVP style scoring spree but I think he could score at least a couple more. Amazing composure to score with only his fifth touch back in an Arsenal shirt.

Re: Henry
He's better than the rest of Arsenal's make-shift strike force put together. Arshavin is on a similar path to Torres. Past his prime despite showing glimpses of magic that created his reputation, but simply unable to live up to said hype.
Chamakh had a purple patch at the start of his Arsenal career, but with such little creativity and service he's nothing more than a squad player.
RVP and Henry are still the most formidable pairing at Arsene's disposal.
Park-Chu Young deserves a few games before he begins life in the South Korean Army.
Miyaichi is behind Benayoun in the pecking order. I expect him to get loaned out in January. (Swansea would be nice).
Possible signings; Jordan Rhodes? He's young, below £10m, scoring like a drain and will no doubt have a higher price tag in the next 5-7 years.
Saloman Kalou? Errrr.

Not at all. I couldn't quite convey his exact message, but it was genuine. He's a good old boy.... possibly my favourite ever Frenchman (which isn't saying much).
As for his role... f*ck nose... point being that Arse rarely play two-up. So, I can only see him as a sub / respite for VP. Unless they play him horrendously out of position.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
I think he should be used as a sub, despite scoring he looked absolutely knackered last night. Obviously it will take a while to get proper match fitness back but I think with his age he would struggle to get through 90 minutes. Would be a fantastic "Plan B" to have Henry sitting on the bench. Defenders will be a little tired towards the end of the game and although he isn't as fast as he used to be, for a 34 year old he isn't exactly lumbering. Nice cheeky sprint to the corner flag last night hehe.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Aye, he said he hadn't even trained for weeks, so he's going to be flagging a little... especially with the higher standards of fitness in Europe. You're right that at least they have goalscoring calibre on the bench instead of some fly-by-night f*ckweasel that'll never reach full potential. At least Wengy can be safe in the knowledge that if there's a sitter to be had, 'enry won't sky it from 7 yards.

What happens when Plan A is on the bench?

I know he mentioned he was on holiday though, so he can't have been training all that time.
Interview afterwards was funny, he looked like a kid who's dream had just come true on Jim'll Fix It.
