Not sure it did. What else could the sound have been?

Meanwhile, Broad is bowling like a dream. What a difference a couple of weeks make.

Seems like the bowlers have now released the pressure a bit.
Re: England v India, 2nd Test, Trent Bridge, 29 Jul-2 Aug, 2011
So ironically the one piece of technology that India trust seems to be the most flawed.
Ah well, as long as we grease our bats as well then it's an even playing field I guess.

Good bowling for the most part. Better batting though. Great to watch. Viva Test cricket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is Swann? They said there was no break in his hand. That, and it was his LEFT HAND that was hit! Come on Swanny, man up and get the f*ck out there, because England need you!
Or is it another injury?

Re: England v India, 2nd Test, Trent Bridge, 29 Jul-2 Aug, 2011
On a trivial note although, with the advent of central contracts, county registrations are far less meaningful than they once were (especially as it appears that England players can appear for counties other than their own at the request of the ECB) Broad & Swann's stand for the 9th wicket yesterday was only the fourth-highest of "same county" England 9th wicket stands and only the 3rd highest at Trent Bridge. The list is as follows:
128 v. Aus., SCG, Dec. 1924, F.E.Woolley & A.P.Freeman (Kent)
103 v. Ind, Trent Bridge, Aug. 2002, C.White & M.J.Hoggard (Yorks).
89 v.Aus., Trent Bridge, June 1948. J.C.Laker & A.V.Bedser (Surrey)
73 v. Ind., Trent Bridge, July 2011, S.C.Broad & G.P.Swann (Notts).
I wonder what the record stand is for a pair of Notts batters playing for England? A cursory glance reveals that Chris Broad and Tim Robinson posted 119 for the 1st wicket against the Paksters at Edgbaston in 1987.

Beefy's gone on strike from commentary until Trott's not bowling.

Re: England v India, 2nd Test, Trent Bridge, 29 Jul-2 Aug, 2011
The answer to my query regarding the Nottinghamshire record for England is 175 for the 3rd wicket between Bill Scotton and Billy Barnes in the first ever Test at the Adelaide Oval in December 1884. The team consisted of a record 5 Nottinghamshire players - Scotton, Shrewsbury, Barnes, Flowers and Attewell - which was hardly surprising in view of the fact that Arthur Shrewsbury was not only the captain but sole selector having organised the tour himself.
It was one of three all-professional tours Down Under - Lillywhite's in 1876-7, and Fred Shaw's in 1881-2 being the other two - which were later awarded Test status. In the course of this innings Barnes became the first Nottinghamshire player to make a Test century, beating his skipper by three Tests (he also took 3-51 in the Australian 2nd innings). In the 2nd innings Shrewsbury rejigged the batting order so an all-Nottinghamshire line-up - Scotton, Flowers, himself and Barnes - struck off the 67 runs required to win.
The highest same-county partnership for England is 382 v. Australia at The Oval in August 1938 by Len Hutton and Morris Leyland (Yorkshire). The highest by a pair batting on their own county ground is 370 for the 3rd wicket v. South Africa at Lord's in June 1947 by Bill Edrich and Denis Compton (Middlesex).

On pitches with a bit of life in them, Raina genuinely looks like a number 11.

Possibly a broken collar-bone. Looks like KP or FOHL will have to bat at 3 with Bopara coming in at 5 or 6 at Edgbaston. Worrying considering Swann has yet to bowl. Fortunate however that Bopara appears to have returned to form given his 178 against Leicestershire yesterday.
