Re: The 2011 Trivia Thread (III)
Anyway, It's way past my bedtime and this PC is driving me to distraction. This stats quiz lark is hard work and effort, especially with a dodgy PC. I think I'll leave the monopoly with the Skullmeister in future but here's a reminder of the question(s) - with Skully's amendment:
:
1) (a) 290 - This quartet certainly set these firworks alight at rally's end
1) 204 - V.H.Mankad & P.Roy (413/1) v. NZ (209), Madras (Chennai), January 1956
2) 159 - G.C.Smith & N.D.McKenzie (415/1) v. BD (259), Chittagong, February - March 2008
3) 131 - W.A.Brown & J.W.H.Fingleton (233/1) v. SA (102), Cape Town, January 1936
4) Most runs & most wickets come to the table
5)116 - G.C.Smith & H.H.Gibbs (368/1) v. Pakistan (252), Cape Town, January 2003
6) Top tonner & Tyke favourite give Yarpie runaround in Chamberlain hideout.
7) 102 - W.G.Grace & W.H.Scotton (170/1) v. Australia (68), The Oval, August 1886.
8 ) 90 - P.E.Richardson & M.C.Cowdrey (174/1) v. Australia (84), Old Trafford, July 1956.
9) 74 - G.R.Marsh & M.A,Taylor (329/1) v. England (255), Trent Bridge, August 1989.
10) 65 - J.L.Langer & M.L.Hayden (219/1) v. SA (154), SCG, January 2002
11) 60 - W.G.Grace & A.E.Stoddart (151/1) v. Australia (91), The Oval, August 1893.
12) 57 - An insect on vehicle gets a fruity delivery at rally's end. Same as 1(a) but with two missing.

Re: The 2011 Trivia Thread (III)
Forgive my etymological ignorance, PCS. Sorry I missed your other answer too. Must have been when my wretched PC was on the blink - that definitely is a stick insect. That's the lot then:
1) 204 - V.H.Mankad & P.Roy (413/1) v. NZ (209), Madras (Chennai), January 1956
2) 159 - G.C.Smith & N.D.McKenzie (415/1) v. BD (259), Chittagong, February - March 2008
3) 131 - W.A.Brown & J.W.H.Fingleton (233/1) v. SA (102), Cape Town, January 1936
4) 118 - J.B.Hobbs & W.Rhodes (221/1) v. SA (103)< Cape Town, March 1910
5) 116 - G.C.Smith & H.H.Gibbs (368/1) v. Pakistan (252), Cape Town, January 2003
6) Top tonner & Tyke favourite give Yarpie runaround in Chamberlain hideout.
7) 102 - W.G.Grace & W.H.Scotton (170/1) v. Australia (68), The Oval, August 1886.
8 ) 90 - P.E.Richardson & M.C.Cowdrey (174/1) v. Australia (84), Old Trafford, July 1956.
9) 74 - G.R.Marsh & M.A,Taylor (329/1) v. England (255), Trent Bridge, August 1989.
10) 65 - J.L.Langer & M.L.Hayden (219/1) v. SA (154), SCG, January 2002
11) 60 - W.G.Grace & A.E.Stoddart (151/1) v. Australia (91), The Oval, August 1893.
12) 57 - K.D.Karthik & W.Jaffer (175/0) v. BD (118), Mirpur (Dhaka), May 2007
13) 55 - M.A.Taylor & M.J.Slater (260/1) v. England (205), Lord's, June 1993.
Karthik retired hurt at 175 (although later resumed at the fall of the 1st wicket) being replaced by Dravid, the pair adding a further 106 runs before Jaffer retired hurt to be replaced by Tendulkar who a further 127 runs with Dravid before the first wicket fell at 408.
As the Bangers were shot out for 118 you can either place it at the top, as Skully does based on the actual fall of the wicket, or near the bottom of my list, as I, and Cricinfo, do based on the runs added by the opening pair of batsmen. In the absence of an official ruling you will have to make your own choice. All the first 4 batsmen in the Indian order made 100s (they could do with repeating that feat in the current Test).
Still one missing I see, in many ways the most extraordinary of the lot. I think this was the first Test to be played on this ground too.

I think the former. I don't think many Tests have been played in the Bavarian capital. Too difficult to get the players out of the bierkeller. Joe's house, Highbury, was one of the earliest built in edgbaston when it was still a rural retreat. Neville represented the constituency in Parliament from 1929 until his death in 1940.
Never knew my words from my insects or spiders.

Pedantic pedantry doesn't suit you, Pete. Cryptic clues are loose as a goose. "Crab-like mite in a vehicle" is not the way of these things.PeterCS wrote:skully wrote:Do you have Jaffas in England?

Interesting the number of times the Saffies have been on the receiving end of this record. I thinkthe next one down is Hutton & Washbrook (359) to the Saffies' 315. Asthma attack got me up again. Serves me right. This is the last time I go to W.G's funeral as one mourner (might have) said. Goodnight and thankyou.

Re: The 2011 Trivia Thread (III)
OK, unless we have 3 days of Welsh weather or Captain Negative decides to be positive, England will pass 500 today. That will be their 3rd consecutive score of 500 (adding to 544 in I2 at Trent Bridge and 7d-710 at Edbaston). Can you name the other 6 instances of teams passing 500 in three consecutive Test innings?
