Only in cake form.
And over here, ticks are related to crabs and spiders. .... they are a sort of mite.
Stick to the puns.
Lecturing again, Skulls?
The serious grumble was that it can lead to a bit of a fruitless wild goose chase, if you get a false scent in a quiz. (btw: I have been bitten by a tick, and I know from bitter experience it weren't no insect!)
My view, however pedantic (or lecturing?) ya want to call it, is that however cryptic a clue wants to be, it shouldn't go so far as being - in a word - wrong.
It could be "mite", "bloodsucker", "parasite", or "pest", and would jab at the answer a bit more helpfully.
FWIW, that was the serious grain in my Danny-style "play of outrage" last night.

Point taken, PCS. I shall endeavour to be more careful in future. Don't worry about being outraged I would have made exactly the same point in your place.
I'm more ashamed of muddling up "etymology" (study of the origin of words) with "entomology" (study of insects). That was really unforgivable.

Don't worry about any of that, AD.
It was a good quiz, ... up to that last pint *jab, jab*.
Do another. Skully needs some competition to keep him sharp

Re: The 2011 Trivia Thread (III)
I think I'll get another PC first. Either that or the Forum was behaving extremely oddly yesterday as I was constantly being "timed out" when I tried to log back in or click on to the latest thread posting in the thread which was the reason I was so slow to respond and missed a couple of your answers. I need to acquire more of Skully's professional polish as a quizmeister first.
However I'm sure I'm right and Skully's wrong about the placing of the Karthik-Jaffer stand (irrespective of the cryptic clue!) in the India-BD match. When I got up this morning I remembered a record that proved my point and no doubt I shall enlarge upon that later but not until I've found the missing answer in Skully's latest quiz question (or somebody else does!).
Btw, sorry for mistaking you for Skulls last night. It was very late and I was feeling very rough!

Re: The 2011 Trivia Thread (III)
When his present question has been answered. It took a bit of ferreting out and refers to a period when the position as regards to the two current Test-playing nations was almost perfectly reversed, both as regards venues and ability. The missing answer is:
560-6dec India v. Eng, Madras (Chennai) February 1993
591 v. Eng. Mumbai, February 1993
536-7dec v. Zim, Delhi, March 1993
Curious that the Windies does not feature in this list.

Just referring back to my question the next on the list outside the cut of 50 I imposed is not Hutton & Washbrook but this one:
46 - P.J.Hughes & S.M.Katich (184/1) v. SA (138), Durban, March 2009
46 - P.J.Hughes & S.M.Katich (184/1) v. SA (138), Durban, March 2009
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

It ought to have been but it's from Housman's A Shropshire Lad so it's Minor Counties, I'm afraid. However it should be dedicated to all Oz supporters.
Here's some Housman for Banny supporters:
Here's some Housman for Banny supporters:
Ensanguining the skies
How heavily it dies
Into the west away;
Past touch and sight and sound
Not further to be found,
How hopeless under ground
Falls the remorseful day.

How about now.JGK wrote:skully - when are we going to get "3 different double centurions in a series" triv?
England has managed 3 different double centurions in the current series v India in England (Pietersen 202, Cook 294 and Bell 235). Instances of 3 different centurions in a series have occurred over a dozen times in Tests, however series featuring 4 or more double centuries AND 3 different double centurions are much rarer. Can you name 5 series where this has been achieved?
