James Taylor
I'm not convinced. Looked a bit rabbit in the headlights-y yesterday, and had no clue against the spinners. Yes it was only T20, but still, it was a big occasion, and he looked a little panicked at times. Does he have any shots apart from the cut and the pull?
Next English batsman off the rank? Hmm.....

Re: James Taylor
my first thought is always James Taylor, singer. How disappointing when it's not.
I have nothing to add in this case. I've never seen the midget bat.

He's a nudger, nurdler and scamperer. He never has looked 'much' but results speak for themselves.

Well his stats flatter to deceive a bit. He's made a couple of big hundreds against the Universities. But for Leics in the CC I think you'll find his average is far lower than his career FC average.

So he's a write off in the Mudge books? Bound to be the next superstar then...

Re: James Taylor
Yeah, Hales, Vince, Roy, and Root are better long-term prospects.

Re: James Taylor
I have! The C40 and T20 games are televised here in Aus. Root has a good, basic technique to build on. You can see why the England selectors already have him on their radar.

Re: James Taylor
Anyone preparing to write Taylor off on the basis of yesterday's performance, which admitedly was poor, is talking bullshine - anyone remember the big runs he scored for the Lions in the Winter and so far this season?

Pah! Chris Liddle would have been a highly decent left field T20 selection. But the selectors are too scared to take risks after the Darren Pattinson disaster.
Taylor looks like one of those batsmen that will be 'figured out.'

Hildreth hasn't dome himself any favours this season. He was probably vying with Morgan and Bopara at the start of the season for the number 6 spot, but now he's well down the pecking order.

Oh, me praising Luke Wright? About 4 years ago I said he looked useful after someone posted highlights of him smashing a T20 hundred on a postage stamp ground.
Highlights tend to make a dog having his day look decent.

Re: James Taylor
Oh Joe Root FFS F*ck me...... f*cking hell....
As for Taylor, he will be breathing a sigh of pure relief that he won't be the next England hopeful to be totally Trevved up.
He looked incredibly sh!t against spin bowling. I've been racking my brains and would warrant he wouldn't have played against much decent stuff. Like he had no clue. Overall? Come on, those stats just cannot be fabricated. He's still done well against the Tiflex which is a massive factor IMO. He's still next cab off the rank, for me.

Re: James Taylor
Hard to judge an England prospect on a couple of poor T20 knocks. Playing spin in that format is very different to doing so in Tests, you have to get on with it, there's no playing yourself in for a few overs against a new bowler.
That format's probably not his strength anyway, looks like a decent accumulator in the middle overs but his strike rate isn't that great. Averages 50 in FC and a fraction below in List A, so must be doing something right even if there's a bit of average inflation from playing the universities etc.

Taylor will play for England before Root, but Root will end up with more Test caps in his career.
Re: James Taylor
Fair enough. He's a talent. Currently he's a wet-behind-ears suckling with one century in a 16-match FC career behind him. You've been quick to allay any criticism of him and that's fine. I personally am astounded that he's near any England side on the basis of this. Taylor is the same age as him, but at least he's had 60 FC matches and scored over 4,000 runs @ over 50. An absolutely massive gap, IMO.

Its 46.29, which is still pretty damn impressive.
