Re: England v West Indies, 2nd Test, Trent Bridge, 25-29 May, 2012
7th century by a West Indinan No.8 and 2nd by a captain batting in that position following Clive Lloyd's 106 v. India at St John's, Antigua in April 1983. The 17th century by a No.8. batsman against England and the first since Anil Kumble's 110 at The Oval in August 2007.

At this stage Sammy is looking good to be a 1000-run, 100-wicket double test player. With the 1000 runs coming up first, by a fair way.
The odds on that when he started out would have been very long indeed.

Didn't he have that mental 7/66 against England in his debut series, if not match. But yeah, he did look too gash for too long for the 1000 and 100 double.
Sammy gone, Brsnan gets another wicket. Jebus.

As expected, Bresnan breaks the partnership.

That delivery beats the 228 leg-stump half-volleys he's bowled so far.

Spose he was due to fall to a slog. Well played, nonetheless.

This will end quickly now. Still, a total of 350-ish is probably many, many more than a lot of Windies supporters thought they get when 6-130.

Windies supporters would not have been the only ones. I think only Strauss and Merlin thought that 6-130 was a position of strenthskully wrote:This will end quickly now. Still, a total of 350-ish is probably many, many more than a lot of Windies supporters thought they get when 6-130.

What does Naz know, eh?! Prolly just guesswork on Strauss's part .....

More, but I hope in conclusion, on Samuels & Sammy's 7th wicket partnership of 204 - 2nd highest by a West Indian pair next to Atkinson & Depieaza's record-breaking effort of 347 v. Australia at Kensington Oval in May 1955, 2nd highest against England next to Shastri & Kirmani's 235 at Mumbai in November 1984 and highest overall in England beating Cowdrey & Evans' 174 v. the West Indies at Lord's in June 1957. It fell 67 short of the fc record at Trent Bridge of 271* held by 'Patsy' Hendren & Frank Mann for Middlesex v. Notts in June 1925.

Mental that Bresno will probs end up with the best figures. WI are still in a good position IMO, a couple of early wickets and they could be in the driving seat, what with the cracks opening up.

Eh? You're a desperate fellow aren't you... just because he's negative doesn't mean he doesn't have plans, does it? I mean, even the 'two boundaries, shit yourself, spread the field' tactic is a plan.

Yeah, pretty sharp from Strauss. Only took him 200 runs to sort it out.

In Strauss's case, that is known as Plan A.

Watch the lips .....
IT'S. A. FLAT. TRACK.
Any decent batting side would have reached 304 (O/Night) but with prolly only 3 wkts down ...
England bowled well (plus a weak WI top order) ensured the 130 - 6 ....
WhereTF did I say (or as you put it, thought) that it was a "position of strength" ??

Noted; clearly England is in no danger of being 3 for anything less than 304.

What I cannot understand with you're on-going bleating about Strauss's captaincy is the allowances which you patently ignore and which have to be made when bowling on a flat track under a 28C sun in glorious batting conditions ...
Are you expecting to attack at all times with 3 slips, a gully, point, leg slip and two close fielders on each side of the bat ...?
Do you envisage a short leg and silly point every time a quick hurls one down...?
Just where do you draw the line and start to consider spreading the field ... buying a wicket ... stopping the easy runs ... given these conditions??
Had this been a cold damp day on a green top I'd agree with you whole heartedly about going on the attack with the score at 130 - 6 ...but it isn't. It's Trent Bridge on a flattie with ace batting conditions ...
Anyway - enough ... let's get back to the cricket!
