Re: The lost generation
good article
I had the pleasure of seeing G Pollock and B Richards play...both wonderful and sad that they and others had truncated careers...but not as dire as apartheid and the truncated potential of millions of black and white saffies...the irony is that many of those great crcketers would have been personally opposed to apartheid

Re: The lost generation
I think it's unfair the way they are ignored in terms of the numbers which are allocated to the saffie players. It's a pity that we never got to see the best of SA against the best Windies and Aussie sides of the seventies.

Re: The lost generation
Aye, I find it quite a tragedy that we'll never know for sure... these players should've had lengthy great records. I'm certain they would've done, but as I say, we'll never know.
Re: The lost generation
SA might well have beaten the '76 Windies and maybe the 1980 side, but after that I think the Windies would have held sway.

Re: The lost generation
Barry Richards (aged 30)
*Eddie Barlow (35)
Lee Irvine (32)
Ken McEwan (24)
Graeme Pollock (32)
Mike Procter (29)
Clive Rice (27)
Tich Smith (26)
Denys Hobson (25)
Howard Bergins (22)
Vintcent Van der Bijl (28)[b]
A better team would have Irvine keeping and Garth le Roux in for Bergins and Peter Kirsten at 3.
1980 might have been a different matter.
