All Time Lost Generation XI Empty All Time Lost Generation XI

Post by Batman Tue 28 Oct 2008, 08:54

Lost Generation XI for example in my book would be Stuart Law and Stuart MacGill. Both were very good and would have fit into a test side automatically but happened to be at a time when there was no place in their teams. The Aussie batting had greats like Langar, Hayden, Waugh Bros. etc with no place left for batting for Law and MacGill always had to contend himself with being TGM's replacement though his career stats are great as well and would have made any other test side that needed a quality spinner. West Indies at it's peak has cases. India couldn't play some more good spinners when the famed quartet was playing together. Paddy Shivalkar comes to mind who Gavaskar has rated the best he had faced in his playing days but could never play for India due to the spinning Fab Four back then. Cases like Kambli come to mind. Was dropped for attitude and fitness early in career despite an impressive test average and never could come back once Ganguly and Dravid replaced available slots.

Anymore names?

Okey dokey. Slaw at 3 and GP at 4. How many Tests did Mike Proctor play? He'd be a moral at no. 7 or 8, wouldn't he?

Was Ollie Milburn an opener? He'd would've been pretty awesome padding up with BR.

Milburn was an opener but only played a handful of Test before losing the sight in one eye in a car accident.
I'd be happy to have him walk in with Barry Richards.

1. Barry Richards
2. Colin Milburn
3. Stuart Law
4. Graeme Pollock
5. Vinod Kambli
6. ?
7. ?
8. Mike Proctor
9. ?
10. Paddy Shivalkar
11. Stuart MacGill

So who's the keeper?

Could it be argued that Proctor was good enough to bat at 6 and maybe Harold Larwoord had the best years robbed from him after he bore the brunt of the Bodyline debacle?

1. Barry Richards
2. Colin Milburn
3. Stuart Law
4. Graeme Pollock
5. Vinod Kambli
6. Mike Proctor
7. ?
8. Harold Larwood
9. Alfred "Tich" Freeman
10. Paddy Shivalkar

He was around long enough to do plenty of damage, to Australia at least. Any other keeping greats that were in the shadow of Knott, Evans, etc?

The 1937 version who played 1 Test or the England legend who played 46?

Denis Lindsay only played 19, but was at his peak v Aus pre-Apatheid. I'm happy to go with him.

Aye. Unfortch my knowledge of players affected by WWI and WWII is limited to Keith Miller, who went on to be a star of the game in the late 40s and 50s.
