Has generation Y already been lost to T20?
"I prefer the shorter version of the game," he says, "especially since I haven't played that many first-class games."
- Wayne Parnell
Worrying signs that one of the world's most promising young fast bowlers doesn't consider test cricket to be the ultimate.

When Steve Waugh was young he once said he preferred JAMODIs and Tests equally.
A few test tons later that all changed.
When Parnell gets a 5 for at Lords and gets his name on the Board with the likes of McGrath, Marshall, Donald etc.. his priority will change.

I think Warner has said his ultimate ambition is the Baggy Green.

What I don't get is what young bowler doesn't love bowling. You know, 15, 20, 30 overs a day, striving to take a hatful.

They were the rock starts of the game once Mick. Now they're just doing covers of old Dusty Springfield albums. Sad really.

The one that can bowl 4 overs a day for the ADHD generation and rake in serious amounts of cash?

No, I probably would have substituted Donald for Kapil.

I hear what JKL said about the ADHD, cash & the like but to me it was about domination. Can't understand how that disappears.

Re: Has generation Y already been lost to T20?
Test cricket only really attracts sell-out crowds in England and Australia these days. Hardly surprising if the young players have the same view as those who pay to watch the game in other countries, particularly with the money potentially on offer - hope some of them have a concept of the sport's history and the importance of the longer format but perhaps they will develop that as their career progresses if not. But playing it in near-empty grounds won't help.

Test attendances in India are not shabby either in fairness....

Test attendabces in India go up and down depending on who is batting at the time.

Sorry JKL, but the last few tests I have watched in India, the attendance has been pretty shabby

They're mixed in India aren't they?
I remember our last win in 2006, there was a damn good crowd yet the test before was poorly attended

it depends on which ground hosts the tests. the traditional centres attract the larger crowds. also we have live television access in every household, unlike england which is only for sky users or australia where they have it either on pay or restrictions for the host city
indian test grounds range from 45,000 to 100,000+ capacity. a half full indian ground is a full ground in most other cricketing countries

I don't think not having sky makes people more likely to go to a test match. If someone is that into cricket to want to go out to watch it, chances are they have sky.

Re: Has generation Y already been lost to T20?
It's all down to advertising. It seems obvious that Aus and England have more attendance at Tests, because most cricket is advertised on billboards, TV, magazines, even on buses.
How fast are people made aware of matches in India if they don't have a TV?
