Heh, maintain the rage, BD. Don't let the farkers gag you. Rightly or wrongly, if the truth be known, you are only enunciating what most Aussies probably think but are too afraid to admit for fear of being wrongly labelled a heartless racist redneck.
I think most Aussies simply want people to use the correct channels, not get bluffed into bankrolling the quntish people-smugglers, not cost the taxpayers a bomb, and not get a ridiculously hastily considered and poorly investigated asylum assessment simply because Christmas Island is full (thanks to the Vulture's Open Border policy).
[that should light the boards up ]

Thats a fair comment (but i don't think Horrie or Mick will let you get away with it )
I'm not against genuine people in need by any stretch. I supported the Viet boat people but i just can't believe all these thousands of people smuggler recipients are all genuine asylum seekers. In my view most of them are just economic opportunists who have nothing to offer this country except an ever increasing welfare bill.

Have you met any of them?

No. Few of them live down here. They prefer the warmer climes where they can live off the taxpayers in extreme comfort.
Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (V)
So you can tell if they are legitimate or not from the pictures on TV and the papers.
That is an impressive skill.

Get orf ya soapbox. I said i 'suspected' most of them are not genuine & i 'suspect' i'm right but obviously with the open ended UN convention regarding refugees it is too hard to prove. Far easier to let them all in to this countries detriment.

I think most seeking asylum would prefer to fly Qantas & have their visa stamped on the way through Immigration.
Leaking death trap or Qantas, leaking death trap or Qantas? I'll take the death trap thanks Larry.

So sink all the boats then. Is that what you'd do BD? Tell me how you would manage the position.

Of course, Mick. Economic refugees have been snowed by real estate/used car salesman style people-smugglers promising the world. Why have these people resorted to this method? They had no genuine claim? They were impatient? They were conned. Possibly all of the above.Mick Sawyer wrote:skully wrote:

I'm not certain I understand. Your point is that some portion (1% - 100%) of those on the boats would have the ability to apply through normal immigration channels and they've conned into believing the boats represent a short cut? fwiw; I'm certain that some portion are looking to take short cuts. I'm equally certain that some portion are persecuted desperate people.

Anyway, I trust that skully, BD, bl and the other raging Tories will spend tomorrow locked inside their house, hiding under the bed as they wait for the sky to fall in as the Carbon tax kicks in.
We'll be thinking of you guys.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (V)
Something's wrong. I walked outside this morning and looked up and there was this huge blue thing up in the air which look remarkably like the sky. But that can't be right - our future Prime Minister promised that the sky would fall in today.
I also went to the local shops and used money to purchase things. What was astonishing is that the shops were actually there and more remarkably, the cost of my coffee was exactly the same as it was yesterday. Again, I was promised that today would see the end of all trade and commerce as we know it.
And I didn't get a call from a single friend or relative to say that they had lost their jobs or were winding up their business, or even from my own boss telling me not to bother going in to work on Monday.
What is going on? This was not was I was promised would happen.

In my view the biggest fault with the ct, is the amount of compensation that has been given. People should have to pay for their extravagant and environmentally toxic lifestyles.
