I also went to the local shops and used money to purchase things. What was astonishing is that the shops were actually there and more remarkably, the cost of my coffee was exactly the same as it was yesterday. Again, I was promised that today would see the end of all trade and commerce as we know it.
And I didn't get a call from a single friend or relative to say that they had lost their jobs or were winding up their business, or even from my own boss telling me not to bother going in to work on Monday.
What is going on? This was not was I was promised would happen.
Obviously the rise in the cost of living due to the tax will not happen immediately. Wait till your next utility bills come in for starters & if you are still feeling so smug about it all i suggest you browse through some of the welfare agency websites to see how this pointless & dishonest tax is affecting the most vunerable.
Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (V)
MrK and Ponts on a typical pinko illogical rant-athon, like the Vulture and her smirking "well, the sky didn't fall in" speech this morning. Like any tax, the Carbon Tax will be felt as the bills roll in through the year.
We shall see in 15 months or so if the sky fell in.

One thing is for sure. This clip will be seen ad nauseum throughout the Federal Election campaign next year...

Interestingly Aussies have reduced their electricity usage considerably over the last few years and the cost of delivering the service is lower than ever. According to the experts there is no justification for the recent price rises. Our utility bills will indeed go up but they are going up regardless. The power companies are c@@ts.

The sky will fall in at the next election because Juliar or whoever the pinkos replace her with will still be PM (unless Malcolm and/or Joe decide to turf Rabbit)

phurt. The ALP cannot come back to 42+% of the primary vote in time for the next general election. We are going to have a country nominally run by Abbott, Bishop, Truss, Joyce & Minchin. I despair.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (V)
these people are a joke...other than the MM who believes in pell, none of the others believe in anything, let alone of value...none are about building a better place letter alone a better world..
Gillard is worse than all of them because she believes only in her self..
btw Tony Bourke is the most recent of appalling labor drones...wants to effectively ban recreational fishing by setting up a ring of marine parks around Oz...soon it will be impossible for a couple of mates to catch a feed together...or grandparent to teach their grandchild how to fish

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (V)
Haven't had time today to read the news headlines, but in transit between sites the wireless just told me that the latest Nielsen poll makes grim reading for the Pinkos, including 62% saying the Carbon tax is bull, and a 58/42 TPP split to the Libs.
What made me chuckle the most was that the poll was taken in NSW and Qld over the weekend and it showed a 28% support for Labor in NSW and a 22% support in Qld. The latter figure would mean there would be no Qld Federal Labor Members after the next election, if those numbers hold. PMSL @ the Goose and Krudd.
Watch this space.

We may as well have the election now. Get it over and done with, get the Liberals in power, and try to rebuild some semblance of credibility in Australian politics again.
The question is- Will Labor be willing to ditch Gillard, reinstate Rudd, and try to make a belated, last ditch attempt to win the next election? Or will they prefer to go down with the Gillard ship, with countless Labor Ministers losing their seats in the process?

Sage, Trev.
And no. They all hate Krudd, so if there's a change it'd be to someone like Combet or Smith. I reckon they have put all their eggs in the current basket and are praying that enough people say "meh" to the Carbon Tax in 15 months to allow them to scrape into power again.
But I think people are too smart to waste their votes on the Greens and Indies again, so it's a big ask for the Vulture. The Carbon Tax could well be the Vulture's Work Choices.
