This Hogg fellow
Except in very brief spells Hogg has been a disappointment so far. Don't understand why the Aussies rate him, except that he may be their version of a 'jolly good fellow' plus 'we need a spinner'?
He has been picked off reasonably easily, and save for the Ganguly wicket, there wasn't too much about him that seemed to stand out. FC/ODI player at most.
MacGill for all his temper issues etc was much much better; a wicket taker that one and his record shows it.
Dunno what all the fuss was about, honestly.

For a subi, furry, I think you've made a good point. I'd say India are pretty happy they don't have to face McGill tomorrow on this pitch.

Re: This Hogg fellow
Hogg has batted and fielded better than MacGill.
In this test, he has probably bowled as well and as badly as MacGill at his best (same number of crap balls, full tosses, long hops) and he produced wicket-taking deliveries against the Indian top order (Ganguly and Yuvraj).
A fairly good performance under pressure, with a fourth innings performance to come.

MacGill can't even bowl at the moment, so the point is moot.

He's only a fill-in. MacGill will be straight back in the team once he's fit.

Was being the operative word. MacDill has been shit at all levels of cricket for at least 3 years. In that time Hogg has consistently outbowled him in all forms of the game.furriner wrote:MacGill for all his temper issues etc was much much better; a wicket taker that one and his record shows it.

I dunno. A fit Hoggy looked very like an injured MacGill on Day 2.

Come on lardy, the score card says nothing about the wickets that could have been taken.

Re: This Hogg fellow
furry, I'm not whinging about the umpire's error, simply observing that Hoggy produced another wicket-taking delivery against one of the top Indian batsmen. It's a tough game, Kumble missed out on a 6-for and the Indians missed a chance of dismissing Australia for around 300 in the first innings owing to an identical umpiring error.

Erm, Hoggy has a better Test bowling average, st/rate and econ rate than MacDill this summer.furriner wrote:Invader Zim wrote:Was being the operative word. Given that he bowled in only one series, you will find his average around 3 points above that of Warne. And around the same as Hogg, as of now.

Personally I doubt MacGill will ever play for Australia again. His best hope is via an overseas tour berth.

What is the summer made up of? I think based on two tests (SL), in one of which he was struggling because of a physical injury. And Hogg has one test so far. Not a good enough basis to say he os better at the Test level, IMO.

As a neutral, it seems to me that there may be a case for saying that MacGill is marked as the pr ick who should not play and Hogg as the all round good fellow who should be given a chance?
What do Australian forummers think? We all have our national peeves- Ganguly was one in India for the longest time. Shastri before him.
