I know I certainly didn't hit 23 in my whole 18 year or so "career". I did hit two in one innings though, and suffered priapism for a week.

Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
I hit 3 sixes in an over off a bowler who used to* open the bowling with Garth McKenzie for Claremont Cott
The first slip started the over with " A carton says you cant hit him six"
Bang over cow corner
next was " Double or nothing you cant do it again"
bang over cow corner
Then came " Fluke double or nothing again"
bang over cow corner
as the first slip started to say something the bowler shouted " FFS ...will you shut up ...beer is his currency"

Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
trivia time ...
Name the batsmen who have themselves scored seven or more from one ball at Test level (this excludes sixes from no-balls or wides, obviously).
I am aware of four Test sevens within the last 40 years or so; including a couple of recent Australians. One current player memorably opened his Test batting account with a seven. I do not have a complete list.
There have been a couple of 8's as well ...

Michael Clarke definitely, he scored a 7, started off as a 3 and there were 4 overthrows (usual method of scoring 7). A more recent Australian has also scored a 7 in Tests, and a "good mate" of Pup's scored an 8.

Apparently* there have been 4 8s in Test cricket (Google tells me) but I can't find a reference to 7s.

I got a seven (all run...two lots of overthrows) for Aquinas second XI in 1984
We would have got 8 but the non striker refused to run ...

Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
The Majid-Mudassar all-run 7 incident, the Clarke 7, a similar Chris Rogers 7, and Kraigg Brathwaite opening his Test runs account with a 7 were the ones I had. I think Brian Lara may also have been involved in a Test 7 by scoring 2 runs, with 5 penalty runs also being awarded to the TEAM rather than to him, when the fielder's return hit the keeper's helmet.
8's I'm aware of: Patsy Hendren, Andrew Symonds.
Of the above, most (barring Hendren, obviously) are viewable on Ewetube, which is where I found them.

Cricinfo on 8s:
"Andrew Symonds managed this rare feat in Brisbane with an all-run four plus four overthrows off the unfortunate New Zealand bowler Iain O'Brien, who had had Symonds dropped the previous ball (he did get him out shortly afterwards, though). Charlie Wat's exhaustive statistical tome Test Cricket Lists gives three previous instances of eight being scored off one ball.
The first one was in Melbourne in 1928-29 - the final Test of Don Bradman's first series - when England's Patsy Hendren also collected four overthrows after an all-run four off the Australian debutant Percy Hornibrook.
The next known instance was also in Melbourne, in 1980-81: this time it was New Zealand's John Wright who benefited from four overthrows (by Rod Marsh, who collected a fielder's return and hurled it at the stumps) after an all-run four off an unamused Lenny Pascoe.
The other eight occurred in Port-of-Spain in 2004-05, when Brian Lara glanced a ball from the South African slow left-armer Nicky Boje for three. The wicketkeeper, Mark Boucher, ran after the ball and threw it back in, but his return hit a fielder's helmet on the ground, so he incurred five penalty runs, making eight in all off that delivery. The five runs would previously have been credited to Lara, but after a recent rule change they went down as penalty extras. Lara probably cursed the lawmakers - he was out later for 196. "
