Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
So the choser played with or against Lillee (last Test March 1983) and Gilchrist (1st Test Nov 1999)? That's a long career!! Non of the Paksters that played against Lillee played against Gilchrist, nor any of the Lankans, NZers or Windies. I think only Salim Malik, but he didn't play against Gilchrist but did play against Warne, retiring early in 1999, and Arjuna Ranatunga, he also didn't play against Gilchrist, come close. Both played against Warne.PeterCS wrote:Team 1 - who chose it?
(Clue: "The only basis on which I can pick a World XI is selecting from those who I played with and against in Test cricket - with the exception of Warne.")
1. S Gavaskar
2. G Greenidge
3. V Richards
4 J Miandad
5 G Chappell
6 A Border
7 A Gilchrist
8 W Akram
9 S Warne
10 J Garner
11 D Lillee
Or did the choser forget to add "Gilchrist" to his "with the exception of" statement?

I think he must have.
"Before the emergence of Gilchrist I would have plumped for Alan Knott", he says to explain his choice of keeper. Perhaps his brain was going from the cumulative effect of all his exploits.
Danny was clearly right on 3).

Not unless that's an embee type of nick (i.e. almost impenetrable).
Look at the County bias.

I think RD was looking at the County bias.PeterCS wrote:Not unless that's an embee type of nick (i.e. almost impenetrable).

Although if it is the player I think RD is thinking of, I am surprised that his Nan didn't make the side.

Right country (as the proliferation of WIndians might suggest!), and JGK right era, but not a bowler.Horace wrote: "Holding?"

Wrong country, wrong way round, two eyes, but the right era. Look at the choice of A/Rs and openers.JGK wrote:Tiger Pataudi?PeterCS wrote:Team 2 - who chose it?

Maybe I need a course at Embee School.
But I think you have it. If you are including the celery-like fruit as well. (Or is it a fruit?)

From Wiki:
In 1996, Boycott assaulted Margaret Moore, a former lover. Boycott denied the charges, claiming she had fallen over and injured herself.

Ah! Got it.
On the other one (Team 5) - no, not a batsman either. And a couple of years later than Clyde.

No, by "wrong way round", I meant batting stance. (And still wrong country!)

No way. That's not Boycott's team!!!
Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
BOYCOTT’S XI: Jack Hobbs (ENG), Len Hutton (ENG), Donald Bradman (AUS), George Headley (WIS), Viv Richards (WIS), Garry Sobers (WIS), Alan Knott (ENG), Sydney Barnes (ENG), Malcolm Marshall (WIS), Shane Warne (AUS), Dennis Lillee (AUS).
Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
Hmmmm.
The problem is Boycott's longevity, and his preparedness to offer opinions at every turn. I am sure he will have changed his team a bit over the years. And published it on a number of occasions, too.
I am not sure which years the two "teams" might have emerged from, but the variance is well within Boycott's range of opinion proliferation.
All I can say is that the team reproduced above yours is a genuine Boycott product.

I thought #4 would be Boycott's but didn't have a guess because I found that team online - from 2011. Never mind, I wasn't going to win a prize anyway.

Whose name have I blanked out in this cartoon?
(I love the cartoon, btw/FWIW - a small work of genius.)
