Oops - I stand corrected!tricycle wrote:This, I think, is his other 200 against Australia, in '08. India didn't get cap numbering on their shirts till 2007 or 08. Apart from that, it doesn't look like the Eden Gardens, where he scored all his other centuries (since 07/08).PeterCS wrote:G.
1. Year?
2. Ground?
3. Score?
The source suggested it was his 281!

But looking again, I think you're right - also from the point of view of his more developed "facial maturity".
Perhaps I should just keep to England (or Australia) questions!

I used to get confused by the Johns(t)ons - the spellings and even the two players.WideWally wrote:No. You're correct. I was thinking that Johnson was also on that tour but he wasn't.
It's what can happen when they are just before your time especially.
Though I still get confused by the NZ Marshalls.
Thankfully, Trent Johnston is a lot later, and a shadow of his two predecessors. (Though a folk hero among the small cricketing community on the Emerald Isle.)
(I think there is a T in his name??)
Anyway, that's me four, variously accurate, quiz QQ cleared, so I'm off!

Well referenced.
I took my link off a dodgy Indian site. (Because several of the alternatives, from 2001, were a bit hazy/pixied/over-cropped, e.g. cutting part off his helmet - these things matter! )
I might have known.

I should have cropped "Tim" off the photo, to centre-stage VVS. (Though actually that would not have been necessary.)

Awroight awroight ... don't rub it in!
Here's another, hopefully correct this time ...
What Test record do Walter Read (Surrey and England), Martin (Lord) Hawke, Hugh Trumble, Ali Bacher and Ridley Jacobs share?

Correct!
And (I think exclusively? - but doubting myself in the light of Laxman) for more than one match. (2/2, 4/4, 2/2, 4/4, 2/2.)

I might be way out with this, but my guesses are -
1 The Oval
2. Bowes & Farnes
3 Hutton, Leyland & Hardstaff

Wally: √, √ and √
Merls: x, x and x.
(For you OF ALL PEOPLE to be so facetious about one of England's all-time greatest matches.
Frankly, I'm shocked. And appalled. And to prove it: )
Ken Farnes is an interesting case. A Cambridge graduate who was spurred on by "Bodyline" to try to knock out any batsman in his path the following (English) summer. One of the might-have-been greats, if he had been taken in hand a bit earlier, by a sympathetic and intelligent captain not merely intent on bomb warfare, and (unlike Bob Wyatt) also with some understanding of what makes humans tick. As indeed was EW Clark, of Monkey's county.
As it was, they were inconsistent temperamental tearaways, the pair of them, bowling too often for lower counties. WIth occasional success for England, but far more occasional then their great talents suggested.
Farnes was nevertheless much admired ( also for his looks ). He had a sad end, unfortunately ....

This one needs an exact answer.
