No - neither of those.
It's a cryptic clue to say he was not related to Andre Nel, or anyone with a similar name.

- Was it Robert Poore then? Had him in my first guess. If so, 1899 Gentlemen Players.

Apologies if I've been repeating my own answer. Using the internet to stream and forum at the same time isn't the best idea....

He died in Switzerland, two days before Christmas, before he was 30.

No worries, Trike. Having the setter bungling a (minor) part of the question doesn't help either, ....

That's the man.
I happened on this cricketer when I saw the most common picture of him, and did a double-take.
Whoa! That's a very familiar picture....
You might think young Lucius was imitating the more famous man's pose.
But the timeless classic portrait of Fry dates from 27 July 1903 - by which time Gwynn had succumbed to TB. So presumably it was a pure coincidence. Or maybe the other way round: CB or his photographer liked the picture he saw of his lamented former teammate, and replicated the stance? Who knows.
More on the unfortunate Mr Gwynn - (batting av: 44.38, bowling av: 22.77):

The picture at the top of the previous page is from another of those "Gentlemen v Players" games, 11-13 July 1895. Gwynn put on a match-structuring century stand with Fry in the first innings, against a mighty Players bowling attack - albeit out for a duck in the second!

Nice find.
Wonder if that was one of the standard poses for batsmen back then.

I have just realised (being a dimwit) that the photos were taken at the same place - look at the post, the wrought iron fence, the form, etc.
Perhaps the Oval??
Tempting to think that Fry/photographer was replicating Gwynn's debonair pose (of 1895??), if they knew it from a photo.

Just one more.
"93". A close look will suggest you need a knowledge of veteran comedians for this one. Who is it?

All correct on those!
(Actually there were two simultaneous Barnetts, and two sequential Hardstaffs. But let's not get picky: it's the obvious ones.)
93 is clowning at a Lord's Taverners match. "The batsman lacking confidence."
Only "pic 61" to go!

- Spoiler:
- Here goes. Larwood bowling to Fingleton at Melbourne, early in the day so his partner was probably Woodful, though the rest of the top order didn't hang around that day. I see a kerchief so Jardine at awkward square leg, I can only assume one of the other fielders to Sutcliffe(getting on a bit can't having him running around in the deep) and the other might be Allen who was a more than capable catcher

Re: Trivia & Quizzia 2013 (an occasional series, by whoever wishes)
Well, others wore kerchiefs too, esp in the hottest matches (the murderous heat of Brisbane, in early Feb I think, particularly)
In any case, all questions to date are now answered.
- For example (and the rest of the solution):
- Tommy Mitchell. But the neckerchief AND those angular features and tall stature indicate only one man, the one you mentioned.
From left to right, as you say:
Fingleton, Larwood (his running progress down the side of the track rather belies a recent comment on here that quick bowling was in fact all pretty medium-paced in the 30s), Sutcliffe (his "old man" bend in the knees is characteristic), "X", Woodfull (tall stature, full, slightly hunched shoulders, very high waistband), and D Jardine.
Finally to Player "X". Apart from Jardine himself and Sutcliffe, the others that regularly fielded in England's leg trap of 3-6 men were Leyland, Verity, Allen, and Hammond.
It's not Leyland - simply too tall for him. Not Verity - facially doesn't fit, also he tended to stoop a bit differently.
So the deduction is either you're right - George Allen - or it's Wally.
I think it's the latter. The face looks like him (tho from this distance Allen was not dissimilar), and the bottom is rather prominent too, as Hammond's was when fielding (!). "Gubby" was usually wearing a broad-brimmed sunhat in the middle of this series, whereas Hammond usually kept to the cap when he covered his head.
I have to admit, though, I'm only 90% confident on that player. It was the weakness in my question!
btw: It's interesting to see Fingo ducking. Hal Larwood was always to claim later taht he never aimed above he chest ... pictures such as this suggest that, whatever the intention, the head-high bumpers did slip through!
In any case, all questions to date are now answered.

I went with total series catches, and even in that there was only a catch in it.

A couple of quickies.
110: I did a double-take when I found this photo, as from a distance it recalls (I think) a current international.
Who is this 21-year-old?
(Hint: He's from damn near the same neck of the woods, too.)

111: A largely forgotten champion of the past, whose Test batting average only very slightly lagged behind Trumper's and Hill's.
And added to his batting a very useful, lively fast-medium delivery.
All in all, he can boast a clearly positive Test all-rounder differential (batting av > bowling av)
