Bored and marooned.
Phone lines and internet are back up. My husband rang this arvo and said they're going to try and get out tomorrow. Normally I would be overjoyed to have some unexpected time on my own but this has been very stressful!

Good luck to the hot man in orange and the lad, sk. At least they seem to be avoiding the tornadoes they are copping further down the coast.

Re: bushfire and weather thread
I just caught up on the news. Scary.
I don't think they will get home tomorrow even if the water recedes. The roads around here are the worst I came across while driving across australia. I'm pretty sure there will be great sections washed away.
Oh, and we're on the move again in March. Back to the west. No more hot man in orange!

Light rain in the North of Tassie today, probably enough to put out the last of the fires for now, and ruin the scheduled local cricket.

Good rain in the Knee of Syd. Quarter of an inch overnight and looking like plenty more to come today and tomorrow. Good for the strawy lawn after a hot January.

Meanwhile back in the Northern winter - the last of the snow is thawing. Rain, winds and floods to come. Roll on Spring!

The papers would tell you that it's been "Snowmageddon" In truth, it's been a little bit of proper winter weather - nothing more.

More tornadoes overnight in Bundaberg.
News broadcasts have been dominated by raging bushfires throughout January. Now it's floods and tornadoes. Australia - the schizoid weather bitch.

Re: bushfire and weather thread
son #1 was camping overnight at Rainbow Beach when the tornado hit
he is one lucky young man ... he did not suffer a scratch, despite trees uprooted all around the campsite and in some cases impaled through nearby cars and stumps.

Good news.
Meanwhile the Knee of Syd is getting the tail-end of the cyclone. It's heaving down at my joint at the moment.

They keep forcasting rain down here but at the moment there's not a cloud in the sky.
Re: bushfire and weather thread
Farking rain. After the scorching hot days last week I had to put water in the pool on Friday.
Now it is just about overflowing.

It never rains down here.
Crazy eastern seaboard though, bushfires, floods, tornadoes. No water for the Melbourne gardens for weeks.

Youngest sprog headed off to the Gold Coast this morning for a 10 day sun and surf holiday. Sat at Mascot all day because Gold Coast airport was closed. Eventually flew out at 4.00 pm. On the nooz it looks like the Gold and Sunshine Coasts are engulfed in sea foam.
