They need to, I reckon. They got rid of Viru, even though he's done the better of the two.

Doherty had a better economy rate than lyon in the previous test so who is to tell what would happen if he had been given a chance on this wicket.

I know what you're saying. A Test average of 78 and a FC average of 45 probably suggests not a lot though.

I guess the problem is that with the dropping of Sehwag he's now the only experienced batsman in the top order. They will be reluctant to go with a very inexperienced top 5.Brass Monkey wrote:beamer wrote:

Experience has counted for little these past couple of years but I know what you mean

Especially against their critics (supporters).
Who SHRIEKED their collective hearts out and gossiped that this was 'the absolute worst team Aus has ever put out', 'worst ever, yeah?', 'terrible pathetic terrible rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb'.
They're all gnashing their teeth on the other side of their faces now ... and SHRIEKING in delight.
Because, with India batting last, Oz have seized the whip hand.
Chances are India will only be chasing 100-150 for a Brown wash

I too am happier with Lyon than Doherty, but FC averages of off-spinners in Australia, IIRC:
Lyon 41
Hauritz 41
Doherty 45
(while O'Keefe is of course down under 30)

India blew this. A 350 odd score would have done the trick. Why was the batting line up tossed upside down only Dhobi can explain. I don't see India chasing 100+ batting last here. If they can manage 70 run odd lead from here it will be maybe a miracle and a chance. Else only shot is if they can bowl Aus under 100 now.

Yes the pitch is certainly playing tricks and now that scores will be close to parity Australia in with a shout. Great toss to win!

Clarke's FC bowling average is no worse than those - and his form improves in Tests (acc to the stats, at least).

Clarke would have liked this pitch but mainly does well with the ball when there is a lot of assistance for him.

Agar would seem to have a good future. Keep him out of ODDs on our wickets, or it'll be Dan Cullen, Nathan Hauritz all over again.

At least we should not lose by an innings.
Warner and Watson in particular must be under pressure to score, or miss the Ashes tour.

Rick Darling must be spewing he wasn't born 35 years later. He would have had a 70 test career

Could even have afforded a few more comedy-spectacular runouts.

Even a lead of 50 at this stage won't be too helpful. Aus just needs a couple of batsmen to slog it out to beat us. India bat last on a track at it's worst. Now if we could get Aus all out under 100 it may be a winning story though. can we pray and hope that Aus get bowled for 50-60 odd runs? Realistically thats the only chance for India. Chasing a low score.

If these guys can cross 300, then maybe it may upset Aus a bit given the pitch. They would have to attack while batting next as playing defensively will result in wickets. Jadeja and Ashwin now have the key.

A pitch like this is good for cricket. So so much better than the roads which have become the norm everywhere now
