England ODI and T20 squads
WGAF etc, but are these announced soon? I can imagine there being quite a few new faces called up. Ballance and probably Willey as well. Maybe even Moeen Ali? England test players who will likely get a rest would be Pietersen, Bell, Broad, Anderson, and Swann.
ODIs, perhaps-
Cook(c)
Trott
Root
Bopara
Ballance
Taylor
Stokes
Buttler+
Wright
Willey
Tredwell
Finn
Rankin
Briggs
T20s, probably Hales and Lumb come in.

I'd like to see more regulars in the side than that. Too many newbs usually results in a few smashings. Or at least in the squad i should say.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
Yeah, but no one really cares, right? Recent tradition states that we trade a few post-Ashes ODI thrashings from Aus for an Ashes win.
I definitely don't think Anderson, Broad, or Swann will or should be there. We need to manage their workloads. I've suspected for a while that Swann still isn't 100% fit, and until Durham, I would have said the same about Broad. KP seems to have a few niggles as well, and Bell deserves to put his feet up for a bit after practically carrying England's batting in the Ashes.

ODIs might be where Bairstow can actually shine.
Esp when Buttler is really struggling of late.
No Morgan???

Oops. Forgot about Morgan. He'll be there. Although he's hardly made a run for several months now in any format of the game.

I'd like to see Carberry get a go in one of the squads - yes he's 32 but he's never played better than currently certainly in the white ball format.

But is he able to fly now? If his illness a couple of years ago means he can't fly, then they may as well have been picking Trescothick at home for the last five years.

Well, apart from the fact they talked to Trescothick about playing in a home WT20 and he wasn't interested...Henry wrote:But is he able to fly now? If his illness a couple of years ago means he can't fly, then they may as well have been picking Trescothick at home for the last five years.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
I reckon Luke Wright might get a recall in the ODI squad. Then you'll see the additions of Bopara, Buttler, Morgan and Tredwell to the usual suspects, with other outsiders being Stokes, Taylor and Rankin. Possibly there'll be rests for Anderson, Broad, Pietersen and Swann at some point - the latter two will probably not play any of the ODIs. Bell and Cook will presumably play the ODIs as they'll be replaced for the Twenty20s.

I'd like to see a guy like Ballance play the entire ODI series batting at either 3, 4, or 5.

Why would he not be 'allowed' to fly for more than a very short term as eg with active DVT? What illness? Seems weird.Henry wrote:But is he able to fly now? If his illness a couple of years ago means he can't fly, then they may as well have been picking Trescothick at home for the last five years.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
Carbs had two blood clots on his lungs that burst. Pretty serious business.
I've no idea where the story of him not being allowed to fly came from. He's said if the door's closed on his England career he wants to play IPL and Big Bash - I'd assume he's not going to take a boat to Australia.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
Well, the Twenty20 squad is out, and includes Michael Carberry;
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire, capt), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Danny Briggs (Hampshire), Jos Buttler (Somerset), Michael Carberry (Hampshire), Jade Dernbach (Surrey), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Michael Lumb (Nottinghamshire), Eoin Morgan (Middlesex), Boyd Rankin (Warwickshire), James Tredwell (Kent), Luke Wright (Sussex)
Not sure how on earth they'd get him into the team though. Lumb and Hales average 55 as a partnership, at a run-rate of over 10 per over! I suppose in England's world that's a little bit too quick, though. Need to slow it down a bit at the top. If anybody is dropped I guess it would be Lumb. Although they could go with Carberry, Hales and Lumb as a top 3 with Wright at 4?

If he had that diagnosis he may well have been advised not to fly for 6 weeks or so, until he'd been stabilised on appropriate blood thinning medication ... but I can't imagine why such advice would remain in place long term.Dello wrote:Carbs had two blood clots on his lungs that burst. At this stage, I can only think he's got pictures of Clarke, Collier and Miller in bed with a couple of callgirls hired by Flower.

And this shows you all you need to know about his bowling... midway through his last over v Northants on Saturday (to be fair to him, the last three balls weren't too bad...)
Not sure why it's been rotated but you get the idea!

I despair. There is honestly no logical conclusion for Dernbach's inclusion in the squad. The man is a laughing stock. Even the other England players must have raised their eyebrows at his inclusion.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
(re the pitch map above)
There are blokes in third and fourth grade hard wicket Sunday comps who never get a bowl because their pitch map would look like that if they were summoned. That is gold.
