England ODI and T20 squads
Ian Bell in the ODI squad. No Ben Stokes in either squad.

Bell and Cook to open in the ODIs then. You couldn't make it up, really....

If I cared about ODIs and T20s, I'd be gutted.
But, like Pietersen, I've retired from them to spend more quality time getting bummed by my Indian paymasters.

as if you get paid for it
No Buttler? One of the few guys in English cricket who can smack 80 off 40 balls?
Cook
Bell
Trott
Bopara.... cripes!
I make WI strong favourites for this series.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
Like Dello, I'm not bothered. And I am not surprised, either. I called Bell as Pietersen's replacement as soon as he retired. For the umpteenth time in his career after being dropped from the ODI side for a) not being very positive and b) not being very good, Ian Bell is 'the answer'. None of the decent tonkers within English domestic cricket even make the squad. No Buttler, no Davies, no Hales, nor even Moeen Ali, who is a Gus favourite. There's no firepower in the bowling attack, either.

I'm too young to retire, or I would be joining you all. But what I have done is dropped England. I'm not into them. I'm all about the WI. Call it childish. Call it churlish. But I'm serious. For the first time ever, I'm supporting the away team.

Spare me.. my boys are going to mouth-f*ck this rabble. Mouth-f*ck them good and proper.
Re: England ODI and T20 squads
Hello, London's own Tim Murtagh has decided he's Irish and is about to play international cricket against the Aussies.
Bit of a volte-face - an Englishman qualifying to play for an associate nation.
I think we've done a swap deal with Boyd Rankin.

Dello wrote:Unlikely. A finger-banging at best.
You're kidding? I mean, there's tonk-fodder throughout the bowling line-up... only Broad and Swann can be trusted for a full 10. Then the pedestrian top four England will put out is incredibly likely to get too far behind the rate to trouble my West Indies.
Re: England ODI and T20 squads
I think you're forgetting Jade "slower ball" Dernbach.
He'll get at least six overs in.
We're chocked full of firepower.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
He won't get a game, will he? Not when there's Tim '37.65' Bresnan, James 'Lost It' Anderson and Samit 'Never Had It' Patel.

Will Dimi Mascarenhas be called up again?

Who cares about England - let's talk the Windies!
Re: England ODI and T20 squads
Considering how Tino Best went, West Indies could call up Stuart Williams now and he'd score a 200.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
FFS. Knew it would happen but... absolute joke of a batting line-up. It's absolutely, 100% Morgan or bust in terms of getting a momentum changing, potentially match winning knock. Otherwise it's a parade of the one-paced and the odd bits and pieces player.
If they can pick Buttler and Hales for the T20, why not for the slightly longer version? The WT20 is this year, it's almost three years to the next World Cup so we should be more adventurous in 50 over selection, if anything. Really wouldn't mind if we get absolutely stuffed in this series.

If England is ever to progress in ODIs, it NEEDS to get stuffed in these two series. Once again the ODI team is being used to reward the favourites in or around the Test side.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
What they need to realise is that Bell and Bopara can at best be competent in this format, they are never going to play the sort of destructive innings that wins matches at this level (Bell in particular).
Guess we're back to plan A of Beddy opening with Cook. But surely it was time to bring a new specialist opener in?
Anyway, we'll probably be lucky with weather, tosses and swinging conditions and win the series 3-2, justifying the selectors' faith in a team that couldn't score within 50 runs of par on an Aussie road.

Re: England ODI and T20 squads
You need guys who have more than just a good look to them. Some people think wee Jimmy Taylor is a crab but the way he pulverised Hampshire a few matches back showed his ability to a) accelerate, b) use his wrists to manoeuvre the ball into odd areas and c) hit big sixes. I didn't believe he could play ODIs until I saw that innings. I just find it odd that guys like Taylor (avg 44.77 in ODD), Buttler (avg 63.91 in ODD) aren't in the squad consistently now. Taylor must have the most runs of any recent young player without actually playing a Test Match.
