Neil D wrote:taipan wrote:Why no CC matches on a Saturday?
Because in England there is a long tradition of playing matches when absolutely no-one is free to go and watch them.
Plus, having those grubby "supporter" chaps turning up at the grounds is terribly distracting for the players.
I remember once being told by Pears ex-Chief Executive that it was much easier to attract crowds on Friday Evenings and on Sundays than Saturdays.
My biggest complaint about playing conditions is the finishing time. A day's play in the Championship will end at six or thereabouts. From Mid-May until the end of July, it would be easy to get a full session in ending at eight or half-seven. If I thought I could get to see the best part of a session's play on my way home from work I might just renew my membership. There must be thousands like me in the same boat. But the ECB don't give a flying kick about punters though.

Northants like a good LBW it seems. Although Ballance has managed to keep his pads out of the way until 174.

Got out on the tonk for 43. But, you're a champion of Division One, aren't you? So 43 must be > 144? Right? Right, Trev?
Well in general I think the standard of bowling is better, yes. Looks like your guys will make enough runs this season but the bowling looks light-on. Who's your replacement for Kleinveldt?
Sorry about that....

No, you're still right - I mean, what's worse, getting rolled for 94 or allowing Patterson and Brooks to put on 60-odd for the last wicket then declare?
Wasn't even my biggest disappointment yesterday.

Northampton Town Football Club battering Portsmouth but still losing as they couldn't finish their f*cking dinner, thus not being able to capitalise on the other shit team's slip-ups and hence still being rendered in the relegation zone. Absolutely f*cking dire.
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Matty Dunn (Dello top tip every year from 2011) with 5-60 as Surrey bowl Essex out for 300-odd.
Meaker, Tremlett, Dunn, Dernbach - they've got one of the most exciting attacks in county cricket. And Dernbach.
Replace him with George Edwards and you're good to go.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
So Ali Cook isn't even captaining Essex? Are England afraid we'll be able to see that his captaincy remains as inept as ever?

Essex are in the title race. I doubt they'd even let him captain their quiz team.
But who cares, anyway? Jason Roy's 30*.

Matt Dunn in the wickets, Jason Roy in the runs, Dello's ball sack completely drained and dry as a camel's tongue......

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
No surprise to see my man Jimmy in the wickets at this time of year. Rather more disturbing was the fact that he was Lancs top scorer. In view of recent England batting efforts. the following paragraph from the dickinfo match report seems appropriate ........
"Luke Procter was first man into double figures with a driven four - possibly the first runs scored in front of the wicket - off Andrew Hall in the 28th over. His partnership with Chapple was worth 29 and the lower order lifted Lancashire clear of total ignominy, though it required the highest partnership of the innings, 39 of 32 balls from the last-wicket pair of Anderson and Simon Kerrigan, to do so. Anderson smacked Steven Crook through the covers and Azharullah down the ground with the fury of a man who was not best impressed by what had gone before."
I really hope he's recharged his batteries since returning from Australia, because 1). since I'm not sure we've got a third seamer worth the name I see Captain Predictable will flog him to death again, and 2). if our top order don't get their shit together sharpish, he'll get bugger-all rest between innings.

Apparently Jandy was quite girlish about his team's batting effort. You have to say fair play to him - he hasn't lost that snarling, blame-game English spirit. Girl away, Jimmy, you great girl.
Old Finn in the wickets again - it's a joke how many he can take, away from the ECB 'think tank'.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Another run-a-ball ton for Vince. This time against a decent Surrey attack. He must be in consideration for the test team now. We need aggressive players.

Oh, just saving the match against the reigning champions....
Oh, just bagging a pair, after a 13 run total in the last match....
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
First f/c ton for two years from Kervezee. And three of his five first class tons have been against them. Five? Really? Woeful waste of talent.
Should mop up Direby tomorrow, weather permitting.
