English Domestic Season 2016
6 weeks away. Big season for us Div 2 wallahs. It looks like after this season, we will have an 8 / 10 split in the championship, with only one side promoted this year from Div 2.

Sounds like the ICC. Assume some Div 1 teams, like Middlesex have demanded the immunity card.
Might be a few more Oz players seeking gigs.
Have full confidence the Pears will win Div 2, unless Ranieri coaches Leicestershire.

The Championship will be reduced to 14 games per side. Sides in Div 1 will play each other twice as now, but some sides in Div 2 will play one match against opposing counties. The reduction is to allow for the expanded T20 comp that will take place and to allow those poor stressed overworked players some rest and recuperation.
It's all bollocks of course.

And the new sponsor of the County Championship is......Specsavers.
I Like this quote from the ECB's commercial Director:
“The County Championship continues to enjoy a strong following and the competition’s geographical spread across 18 different counties will help Specsavers gain wider brand exposure at both regional and national level.”
So, no more talk of franchises then?

A whole 18 counties, that's almost kind of half. And one of those is in Wales.
Waitrose for England, Specsavers for the counties. At least they can take the piss for a game or two, sponsored by eyeware and getting sawn off...

Tom Fell has had a setback in his recovery from testicular cancer and needs chemo. He hopes to be playing by June if all goes well.
Best of luck to the bloke.

He did seem quite upbeat in his interview, though.

Re: English Domestic Season 2016
And in other news, the domestic structure for 2017 has been announced:
County Championship - reduced to 14 games:
First Division = 8 sides
Second Division = 10 sides
One side promoted from Div 2 this year and two relegated from Div 1
T20
As is, except that matches will be played in two blocks in July / August. Finals Day stays.
Royal London Cup
Games to be played in April and May with a Final in July.
I hope you all got that, because I'm asking questions later.

Steve MacMuffin gets another contract, but as a local as he is obtaining Brit citizenship.
By the way Selvey has written a great article about Ken Barrington in the Guardian. Well worth a read.

Just about. With Gidman retired and Fell having Chemo, he should start the season in the firsts. I think this might be last chance saloon for him though.

First first-class ton for Brett D'Oliveira yesterday - that's three generations of D'Oliveira's who have scored first-class hundreds against the might of Oxford University.

It doesn't mean a lot but Steve Davies made a hundred in each innings against Loughborough. If only he was still keeping he'd be a big chance for a test call up. Although Iron gloves Jonny looks like being persisted with. Even as a specialist batsman he might be able to sneak into the top six.
