Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
I'm praying Bairstow doesn't get runs. With Prior's achillees being f*cked, you just KNOW they're dying to pick Jonny Knicks and his big, wide, open gate.

Weird. He barely got a bowl for Somerset last season, but now he's suddenly opening the attack, relegating golden boy Jamie Overton to first change.
Still only 21 - seems to have been around a bit longer than that.
He's also batting well at the moment. If the selectors had a bit more imagination, they might have given a young guy who's in form like him a go against Scotland.
HA! I didn't even see this. See what I mean? He bowled 19 overs in limited overs cricket last year. 19 overs. Yet if they had 'imagination' they'd pick him. Shit, if they had imagination, they'd pick Snuffaluffagus or Wellyphant.
You are correct. The hyperbolic Trevving of Lewis Gregory has set new standards in Trevving and possibly in seminal exsanguination.
hehehe...this is why in my view the English Domestic cricket thread has been the most consistently entertaining thread on this Forum...
btw yayayayay Pears

great knock by Dashing Daryl for the Pears in their match v the leekies...odd that the leekies have both Rudolph and Murray Goodwin in their team...not sure having both is the best way to develop their young talent

If Prior wasn't fit, I'd pick Davies on the basis that he's a better keeper than either Bairstow and Buttler and he won't let anyone down with the bat coming in at seven.

Pears well placed after day 2...need some attacking cricket to maximise the points

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Buttler
Davies
Kieswetter
Foster
Bairstow
Would be my order of keepers next in line if Prior is fit. Bairstow just doesn't look up to it with the bat or gloves.

I cannot imagine him making runs against SL or India's spin bowlers - given that he goes all pigeon-toed and iron-batted. He be a joker.
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Numerous technical deficiencies that he has apparently been extremely slow to acknowledge. If he was Kevin Pietersen he would have been sacked and berated long ago.
But oh no, he's a "good lad".

Nice Jonny, good Jonny. I agree. They all seem to be good old lads at Yorks.
As an aside, is anybody watching the York/Dur match? Gillespie was saying Plunkett's currently '90mph+' - wanted to know if he was boolshitt'n'.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
At least Monty's in the wickets. He's got to be better than Borthwick even when shite.

Better than Scott 'Didn't bowl at all in 164 overs' Borthwick?
You'd hope so, you'd hope so.
Just don't tell Trevor Dello we're saying this.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
That's a pretty complimentary assessment. Seems very Steve Smith as a bowler.Brass Monkey wrote:Better than Scott 'Didn't bowl at all in 164 overs' Borthwick?
What's happened to WIll Beer? And there was that Somerset leggie too (recent one, not Munday).

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Will Beer? Trevved. Though to be fair he could barely land it on the strip in an informal interval piece on Sky the other year, so we may as well be talking about my leg spin.
Max Waller? Trevved. Though to be fair he always looked like he'd be a rank T20 player with nothing else going for him in between - just lolloped his leggie down the other end with as much fizz as a broken Soda Stream.
They all get hyped on the basis that they have (LS) next to their name on the scorecard. M to the eh.

Cheers. Max Waller, that's the one. Came over for a 2020 tourney here iirc... not surprising he's done.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Well we should be doing something about it, pay the best coaches millions to make them world class, plan their development meticulously so they are always playing on pitches that are right for their development, etc. If that means they never play early season county cricket on green pitches, or even any county cricket at all, then so be it - spin prospects are like gold dust and yet we let them turn to crap.Brass Monkey wrote:Will Beer? We need nine wickets tomorrow - and some luck with the weather! Second ton in the match for MItchell, that's three so far this season.

The odd ball was 90mph+ but generally his pace was high 80s. He's stopped that irritating rehearsal of his action while he's walking back - he looks like a bowler who's comfortable with his action.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Surely he's not back in the England frame... a name from the previous Moores era long since consigned to the scrapheap. A name that for me is only associated with Saj Mahmood, Kevin Shite, the Anderson cycle being permanently on the "TAYPOC" setting, and the days when Sidearse was the only English bowler who could land it on the cut strip.
