Golden Horn's owner thinks he is best at ten furlongs so there is a chance that he will contest the 2100m Prix du Jockey Club (aka French Derby) instead of the 2423m Epsom Derby. However watching his win in the Dante Stakes over 2092m, he appeared very strong at the finish, so I would think he would have no problems with the Epsom Derby journey.

John Gosden trains both Golden Horn & Jack Hobbs so maybe he might run Golden Horn in Prix du Jockey Club & Jack Hobbs in the Derby.

What's the prize money if he wins?

Total prize money is £1,325,000 added.
First down to sixth place.

I believe the winner gets around the £ 1 million mark.

Kentucky Derby winner, American Pharoah, has won the Preakness Stakes by seven lengths in very muddy conditions. So in three weeks time he will attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978 when he contests the Belmont Stakes. He will be the 14th horse since Affirmed to have won the first two legs.

One question - What about the spelling?

PHARAOH

The Courier-Journal reported owner Zayat Stables had fans submit the name of the thoroughbred and, oddly, the misspelling was used when it was sent in to The Jockey Club.

The organization, responding to Zayat Stables seemingly blaming them for the mistake, released this statement on Tuesday:

"The name request for the 2012 colt American Pharoah was submitted electronically on January 25, 2014, through The Jockey Club's interactive registration site. Since the name met all of the criteria for naming and was available, it was granted exactly as it was spelled on the digital name application. We wish Zayat Stables and American Pharoah continued success."

Singapore hold their two most important races of the year tonight, the KrisFlyer International Sprint over 1200m & the Singapore Airlines International Cup over 2000m.

The outstanding Hong Kong sprinter Aerovelocity is the hot favourite for the KrisFlyer. One of his opposition is Lucky Nine who won this race in 2013 & 2014 while others such as Rich Tapestry, Zac Spirit & Emperor Max possibly have some chance.

Last year's Cup winner, Dan Excel, will try to go back to back but should find strong opposition from Military Attack, Japanese raider Meiner Frost & the classy French horse Free Port Lux.

I always enjoy watching racing from Singapore as I believe Kranji is the best racetrack in the world. Well, one of the best. No, the best.

Prix du Jockey Club has been won by New Bay who ran second in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains at his previous start. That is another Group One winner for the progeny of Dubawi, one of my favourite stallions.

Golden Horn is the red hot favourite at 7/4.
But am not sure he'll handle the undulating track that is Epsom ...

My three against the field are :

Glen Eagles @ 4's; Hans Holbeim @ 12's and Criquette Head's Epicuris @ 20's.

The Oaks has just been run at Epsom & won by Qualify who was at huge odds. She narrowly won from her stablemate, the favourite, Legatissimo. Both filles are trained by Aiden O'Brien.

Qualify was a Group Three winner as a two year old but had failed at her two runs as a three year old.

And there was an Australian influence in her pedigree as Qualify was sired by Fastnet Rock who is one of our best locally-bred stallions. Over here, he is best known as a sire of sprinter-milers but in Ireland he has served a number of stoutly bred mares. Qualify is out of a mare by Galileo out of a mare by The Minstrel. Both of those stallions won the Epsom Derby.

I was also pleased to see Lady Of Dubai run third as I had a small each-way bet on her. At her previous start, she scored an impressive win in the Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood.

The Queensland Derby has just been run & it was won by Magicool who is by Fastnet Rock out of a Galileo mare, the same cross as the Oaks winner. This year the Derby was run over 2200m at Doomben as they haven't finished the upgrade to Eagle Farm.

Glen Eagles has been withdrawn.
Hans Holbein holding firm at 12's whilst Epicuris firms in to 12's.

Golden Horn is still the hard favourite, but money is coming in for Gosden's other runner Jack Hobbs (4's)
and Aiden O'briens  Giovanni Canaletto (8's).

The going is GOOD ... race off time 4:30 ... listen out for the crowd's roar as they hurtle around
Tattenham Corner at around 4:32 ... that's where the race is won or lost - as the horses change feet
running the reverse camber. Some do it successfully but some sadly don't, and lose their stride entirely...
... and a length or two lost in this 12 strong Group 1 field is tough to make up with just over a 1/4 mile to the post.

I have been very impressed by Golden Horn, so I'm sticking with the favourite & consider his stablemate as the main danger.

And don't forget, this weekend American Pharoah attempts to win the Belmont Stakes & become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown.

It won't be easy because he has already been JGK'd.

Superb ride by Frankie on the superb horse Golden Horn.
Met Tattenham perfectly balanced (as did Jack Hobbs) and kicked on
in the final furlong. He stays 1m4f - no doubt about that!
Gosden is a perfectly humble but brilliant trainer (close friend and confidante of Dettori)
who credits all but himself for the glory.

The best of O'Briens Irish quartet Giovanni Canalletto finished 4th, Epicuris 5th
and Hans Holbien (who made all the running) stayed on for 7th.

Australians may be interested to know that Golden Horn's 5th dam was Courtessa who had an impact on our racing through her daughter Klairessa. One of Klairessa's progeny was the brilliant sprinting filly, Habibti, who won three Group Ones in England & France. However, two other daughters of Klairessa came down under - Eight Carat & Great Klaire. Descendents of those two include the likes of Octagonal, Mouawad, Kaapstad, Diamond Lover, Tristalove, Don Eduardo, Viking Ruler, De Beers, Viscount, Danewin, Commands, Telesto & Fraternity.

And if you trace the damline back past Courtessa, you come across mares like Sun Princess, Mumtaz Begum, Mumtaz Mahal & Lady Josephine. They were responsible for some of the great stallions in Thoroughbred history - Nasrullah, Royal Charger, Fair Trial, Tudor Minstrel, Abernant, Mahmoud, etc.

Damline 9-c - It's a good 'un.

Going : Good.
Weather : Bright and Sunny.
Temp:  Around 22/24 C.

The course looks immaculate... I drove past it yesterday.
I'm there Wednesday for the Jersey Stakes, the Queen Mary Stakes, the Prince of Wales Stakes
and the Royal Hunt Cup ... what a day's racing ... yippee!
Also there for Ladies Day ... but the fashionistas leave me stone cold ...
... though the Missus likes that sort of thing!

The Queen Anne Stakes over a mile on Tuesday looks fascinating. Two of my favourite horses are running - The Hong Kong superstar Able Friend & the outstanding grey from France, Solow. And they will be opposed by the Richard Hannon pair, Night Of Thunder & Toormore who recently quinelled the Group One Lockinge Stakes. It should be a great race.
